At the above link you will find my post describing the opening salvos of the 20mph grift designed by the Mayor of London to make even more money from Sutton’s beleaguered motorists! Today, during the school-run, we were met with a “traffic-jam” on our cul-de-sac street! This has never happened before – as residents usually come and go with a requisite ease. Why was this happening? It was not Bin Day (which sees Tonka-Toy type Refuge Collection Lorries zip up and down – dutifully emptying our colour-coded bins – codes decided by the EU in Brussels and never repealed after Brexit) – no, this was far more serious.
About 30 cars were paraded – bumper-to-bumper – in a funeral-type entourage that crawled slowly down the road! It took 15-minutes to travel 100-yards (300-feet) – before we could turn into the next street – only to find a similar congestion of traffic in what is usually a sedate collection of side-streets. When gaps appeared (here and there) in the traffic – the horror became apparent – as “20mph” road-markers (see above) became visible! Not only this, but this pattern of freedom-interfering had been repeated all round the area we live in – throughout West Sutton!
I am told that Council workmen had been out early with templates and paint brushes placing these markers all around the place – which included warning signs attached to lamp-posts. This is a blatant money-making scam being applied by despotic Local Councils all over the UK – designed to bolster failing Local Council coffers through the issuing of “Speeding Fines” for anyone travelling “faster” than 20mph on our local roads – operating under the false guise of “safety”. This is akin to cows farting and Climate Change, etc. It is a false construct designed to remove old freedoms and initiate new draconian measures without recourse to the democratic process. Local protests have been completely ignored. The local people do NOT want this grifting policy!
Indeed, a number of local groups have challenged this ridiculous policy in Court and won – so perhaps Sutton Council (and the cabal that controls it) is “waiting” for an official legal confrontation. The problem is that in this affluent area (we are not affluent – and are here by accident) the locals will put up with their freedom being removed – providing it is done through a gentle “chipping” away process. A little freedom disappears here, no resistance, a little freedom is taken away there, no resistance. The over-all effect is that large swathes of hard-earned freedoms just “disappear” overnight! Enough is enough – Sutton should secede from London!
