Blogger’s Note: The affluent (capitalist) West has tolerated far-right conspiracy theories – and provided the fertile ground for these anti-intellectual trends to grow strengthen amongst the ordinary people. I suspect that despite the threat to public health – if individuals and groups are busy believing ridiculous things – and consequently voting right-wing and far-right – a groundswell of genuine “Socialist” activity cannot occur. It is a statistical game that balances the risk between sustaining predatory capitalism – and generating the conditions that could lead to an unstoppable Socialist outpouring. The irony is that Adolf Hitler firmly believed in a medicalised society – a society manipulated, treated, and enhanced by the science of medicine (see Blitzed: Drugs in the Third Reich by Norman Ohler). How did the political far-right get from being obsessed with the progression of society through the use of pharmaceuticals (Hitler was throwing-back handfuls of pills by the time of his death) – to claiming that diseases do not exist – and that vaccinations actually cause the illnesses they are intended to prevent? It is quite remarkable how primarily level-headed individuals started listening to bizarre accusations – and then started bleating-on about this conspiracy or that sleight of hand. (One particularly stupid set of beliefs involve the false ideas that Covid-19 vaccinations possess nano-bots that when injected into the bloodstream – are activated when exposed to 5G wifi – and send all your personal data to a special collating office in Beijing). It is like witnessing a mass-psychosis that is only being allowed to politically benefit a distorted far-right. Of course, there is a conspiracy – the class-based conspiracy of maintaining the bourgeoisie in power and the system of predatory of capitalist power it prefers – but this is an old story that was normalised centuries ago. What Bangladesh (and the surrounding countries) need is a massive influx of (free) capitalist wealth and advanced medical resources to fight Covid-19 at source. This is the only way the entirety of humanity can be safe. The status quo will have forego a little bit of its capitalist stability to achieve this. ACW (29.6.2025)

DHAKA, June 29 (Xinhua) — Bangladesh on Saturday recorded two new COVID-19 deaths during the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 22 so far this month.
The country on June 5 recorded its first COVID-19 fatality this year when a man died from the infectious disease in the capital Dhaka.
The country also reported seven new COVID-19 cases, with the daily test positivity rate jumping to 3.87 percent in the 24 hours till 8:00 a.m. local time Saturday. Official data showed that 174 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.
Amid a fresh rise in COVID-19 infections in several neighbouring countries, the Bangladeshi interim government has asked people to refrain from traveling to those destinations unless absolutely necessary.
The authorities here have also instructed relevant departments to enhance health screening and surveillance measures at all ports to contain the spread of the infection.
