It is that odd time of year that exists between Xmas Day and New Year’s Day! Although we head back to Sutton tomorrow – today involved the laying of a stair-carpet for my mother (Diane Wyles) using hammers and nails acquired by my brother-in-law Paul (who ventured out in the stormy weather we have been experiencing this week! Mum purchased the carpet sometime ago but we had to prepare the groundwork to the job properly. I say ‘properly’ – but what I mean is doing the job ‘to the best of our ability’ – which is far from professional (but then none of us are carpet-layers or decorators)! The entire job took about three-hours and we did a good job all things considered. Gee interspersed sessions of hammering nails with myself – whilst Paul kept the carpet ‘straight’ and unrolling properly! Manual labour is the essence of social, cultural and political development! None of us are beneath manual labour!
