Hyphen: “Overwhelming” Bias Revealed in New Report on UK Media’s Coverage of Israel-Palestine Conflict! (15.3.2024)

Researchers at the Centre for Media Monitoring (CfMM), an arm of the Muslim Council of Britain, examined nearly 177,000 broadcast clips and 25,515 online news articles published between 7 October and 7 November 2023. The broadcasts were from 13 channels operated by media organisations including Al Jazeera English, the BBC, Channel 4, ITV, Sky News and right wing outlets GB News and TalkTV.

The CfMM report, Media Bias: Gaza 2023-2024, also examined news websites published by 28 media organisations including the New Statesman, Economist, Daily Mail, Sun, Mirror, Independent, Guardian, Times, BBC and iNews.

They found that broadcasters referenced Israeli perspectives almost three times as much as Palestinians (4,311 times vs 1,598), while online news outlets presented Israeli perspectives almost twice as much (2,983 times vs 1,737).

On broadcast channels, “Israel’s right to defend itself” was promoted on 1,482 occasions, while the rights of Palestinians were mentioned 278 times, a ratio of 5 to 1.

In July 2018, the Malaysian government released a more than 800-page report, noting that the evidence led to an “incontrovertible conclusion” that it was under manual control, and it was deliberately flown out into the Indian Ocean. Until the wreckage is found, it will remain unknown as to who was at the controls of the Boeing 777 during that time. Loke, who was also transport minister at the time, described it as the final and full report.

On condition

Nearly four years after the release of the report, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said during a March 4 state visit to Australia that he would be “happy to reopen” the search for the missing MH370 “if there is compelling evidence”.

Therefore, when reporting on this issue – it becomes something of a skill choosing ‘when’ and ‘what’ to publish – without falling into the trap of ‘trivialising’ Zionist mass-murder through ‘repetition’. Whilst I ‘adjust’ US English into British English (Xinhua) – I find myself having to ‘collect’ and ‘save-up’ the macabre Israeli massacres for such a time when their ‘group’ presentation becomes ‘meaningful’ – beyond the usual drone of the background noise that defines the (amoral) international news machine (within which – a greater ‘death’ count – results in a ‘higher’ income). I refuse to accept the flawed capitalist notion that ‘Genocide’ should equate to ‘Commerce’.

However, the ‘London Recruits’ who travelled to fight the Apartheid in South Africa during the 1970s – was a British ‘Communist Party’ initiative – one of the few post-1945 initiatives that advocated directly opposing certain extreme elements of the Bourgeois Establishment. Khrushchev’s betrayal of Stalin during 1956 (and 1961) caused all kinds of divisions throughout the International Communist Party. I think that before he committed himself to the Bourgeois Labour Party – George Galloway was a Communist. Indeed, most of the videos of Galloway expressing pro-Communist ideas have subsequently been removed from the internet. The ‘new’ Galloway is Islamic-bigotry friendly – and whilst he works to eradicate gays and trans from society – he might grant you one or two Socialist attributes and reforms. He might even throw you a football to keep you quiet. Only the call to prayer will disrupt the game – but only if the local clock is working on the Town Hall!

What fooled many people for many years was the fact that until his 2002 reversion to Islam – he was genuinely of the ‘left’ – and whilst he absorbed the inevitable pre-modern attitudes of the theistic belief system of his choice, he kept up the ‘front’ (or ‘rear-guard’ action) that ‘hid’ his new non-Socialist attitudes from those who only knew him as a ‘Socialist’. Perhaps his clash with the US Senate in 2005 was his fabled ‘Last Stand’. It is probably dawning on him now – as he sits in his comfy chair, sips his coco and wears his warm slippers – that to stop the Grooming Gangs – he will have to denounce a number of those religiously motivated prejudices he now currently adheres to – because such an adherence makes his partner feel ‘nice’ about the world (the ‘JK Rowling’ effect).

I walk to the market every day to secure our needs, and every evening I remember my destroyed home and my martyred brothers. We are forced to bear the pressure. I have two children, Ahmed (9 years old) and Ola (8 years old), and they tell me that they long to breathe freely and comfortably, but we do not have this luxury currently, and our day goes from morning to evening in fatigue and anxiety, and we fear that the process will begin again. I worry that the Zionist military forces will come and I lose my children – and then we are busy again getting water and bread.”
