Due to China’s economic and cultural investment in Kenya, the Kenyan government’s position is that of official good ties and close relations between the two countries. In 2013 the (rightwing) British media (falsely) reported that the government of North Korea legally limits the number of hairstyles available to men and women to just twenty eight. The number of twenty-eight was said to be the number by which Socialism can resist the onslaught of Capitalism. According to the (rightwing) Daily Mail and City Metro newspapers (21.2.2013), pictures of haircuts on a barbershop wall in North Korea – eighteen for women and ten for men – are the product of DPRK legislation limiting the hairstyles that North Korean citizens can choose.
The masses of people who live on housing estates of Torbay are hidden away from the view of the tourists on the seafront, and live in abject poverty. As they have no voice – they appear not to exist. This non-existence is designed to keep a stock of potential workers handy should the need arise – whilst simultaneously preventing them from gaining an education and accessing adequate employment and political power. Although there are obviously more workers in Torbay than the bourgeoisie (i.e. middle class), they appear not to exist because they lack any means to access the bourgeois system.

It is not an original, or even a new story, but rather a report lifted from Youtube. The story evolves around apparently high-ranking Thai Buddhist monks flying in private jets, and wearing designer sunglasses. It may or may not be a troubling story for Buddhists, but the Metro reporter responsible for the story – Nicole Le Marie – demonstrates no knowledge of either Buddhist or Thai culture.
