Saturday September 26th (2026) was Kai-Lin’s 10th birthday! We had a packed day of present-opening – many from my family in Devon, and a packed schedule of travelling around South London visiting important cultural sites, toy-shops, and as you can see here a Sutton street with two cake shops in it. Kai-Lin (and family) traversed from one shop to the next carefully examining the available cakes and assessing the size and prices, etc. Kai-Lin opted for large chocolate and cream cake from a shop that specialises in “egg-free” recopies.
Obviously, Trump’s mismanagement of the integrated Western economy has made prices go up by five or six times – so comparing prices is now front and centre. A local restaurant we have been visiting for years has kept its prices relatively low – but it has done this by reducing the portion sizes. I think this reduces waste as the portions used to be huge.
