Translator’s Note: France is one of the foremost exporters of bourgeois violence and regime change in the world. Yes – elements of its past have been “Socialist” – we can see it here, but this does not excuse the general behaviour of France around the world which generates violence and terrorist attacks. The support of the Zionist “Genocide” in Gaza is unforgivable – as is the supplying of French weaponry to the Neo-Nazis of Ukraine! This is what the French bourgeois do. What the French proletariat does, however, is quite different. The Marxist-Leninist left fought the Nazi Germans during WWII – but the French bourgeoisie soon destroyed that legacy soon after 1945 at the behest of the US. This balance of opposites is what we are left with. France is obviously “Socialist” and it is “Not”. Of course, whichever it is, both are liberal democratic – and capitalist. Indeed, these African migrants have not come to France to form “International Brigades” for fighting Neo-Nazism in Ukraine (and capitalism everywhere) – but rather to participate in capitalist endeavour and generate wealth for their personal use. Only the State is wealthy enough to assist large groups.
Predatory capitalism reduces use all to disempowered ultra-individuals with limited personal resources. When we help – it must be in small amounts and given out carefully. This will only change when the workers seize the means of production and control the forces of production! I wonder how many migrants would come if they had to join a new Red Army for fighting capitalist tyranny around the world? Marxist-Leninist-Maoism is the way – Trotskyism (which is currently on the march in Burma attempting to destroy Buddhist Socialism) – is a disease on the working class! If these African migrants were Neo-Nazi Ukrainians, Poles, Lithuanians, Estonians, or Latvians (the far-right says nothing about these “White” migrants), as well as Hong Kong Rioters – they would all be living in spacious three-bedroomed houses and driving brand new cars by now – all given free by a British State which simultaneously deprives its own population of the NHS, Welfare State, Social Housing, Workers’ Rights, Unions, and Free Education! All this is following the dictates of the US bourgeoisie – which is attempting to take over the world through legislation! If this Theatre were a State – I am sure NATO would be bombing it by now! After a month of the Theatre being Occupied – there is no solution of “shelter” for the 300+ young people currently occupying the Gaîté Lyrique. Yes – after a month of Occupation there is still no constructive housing proposal from by the State or the City of Paris – to shelter the people gathered under the banner of the “Belleville Park Youth Collective”. These desparate people are occupying the Gaîté Lyrique.
The Gaîté Lyrique regrets the sudden and forced nature of this Occupation, but fully supports the legitimacy of the Collective’s demand to obtain a roof for these, now, 300+ people. While the number of young people sleeping at the Gaîté Lyrique continues to increase, the sanitary conditions are deteriorating day after day – with the volunteer-teams facing this situation alone.
Although this Occupation is forced, it is unthinkable for the Gaîté Lyrique to throw these people out onto the street in the middle of winter. Therefore, this building remains closed until further notice.
All events scheduled between January 10th-24th are cancelled – or moved to other partner locations. Information is communicated daily. La Gaîté Lyrique reiterates its calls to the competent Authorities to find, as quickly as possible, a housing solution for these people with respect and human dignity.
