This is the precursor to the shocking events previously published on this blog regarding the Police actions of July 23rd, 2024. The above footage shows the attempted arrest of two Rochdale men who had been involved in a fight at the Terminal 2 Airport car park. Following the head-kicking incident – four men were arrested – including two other Muslim men who were present. Indeed, the man whose head was kicked can clearly be seen attacking a Police officer (from behind) prior to that incident. There is no doubt that the civilian men are at fault and this is surprising considering their families are comprised of serving Police officers in the area. Why did they react this way? Is there something being said that we are not able to hear? Whatever the case, the emphasis has been understandably placed on the subsequent response of “fire-arms” officers who are empowered to take lives should they deem it necessary to do so. The Police officers lost control of the situation and could only regain it through draconian measures. The question is whether the actions of the Police were lawful and legal? The civilian suspects are not innocent and the above footage is damning – doing their cause no good whatsoever. However, even if the behaviour of the suspects was violsnt and threatening, does this mean that the Police can do anything they want? The answer is no. Just as soldiers and NHS staff – both employees of the government (as Civil Servants) – are expected to conform to strict levels of discipline – so are serving Police officers.
