This is an area across the road from St Mary’s the Virgin Church in Beddington Park – formerly a Lord’s Estate (and independent village) now open to the general public as a park. The most progressive Lord was Charles Hallowell Carew (1805-1848) – Captain in Her Majesty’s Royal Navy – who ran the village like a self-contained ship giving his workers everything they needed to live in a ‘bubble’ of well-being. I think this ‘new’ Churchyard was once an area where the deceased were buried when there was no more room around the Church building proper. There is a ‘gate-house’ on ether side of the road with the Churchyard now sculptured into of something beautiful, positive and enthused with uplifting and creative energy!
