Later, the 14th Dalai Lama became very a close friend with the exiled Nazi War Criminal Heinrich Harrer, who in return for an amnesty from the Western allies for his war crimes (as a member of the Nazi Party and personal friend of Adolf Hitler), assisted the CIA to concoct a story about Tibet being ‘invaded’ by China. I was dismayed to see a UKIP representative on the Torbay march. I was even more disappointed that he was not asked to leave, or that other people on the march (all predominately ‘white’) were either indifferent to his malignant presence, or worse still actually engaged him in jolly banter as he filmed and photographed other members of the group to upload on the numerous neo-Nazi websites administered by UKIP.

Despite the sacrifice of thousands of these selfless people – the war was eventually lost – but it set the stage for WWII and the ultimate crushing of Nazism. Prominent speakers at the commemoration talked today of the upsurge in far-right activity in Eastern Europe – referring to the UK and USA-backed neo-Nazi regime in Eastern Ukraine and elsewhere. In these tainted countries – memorials to the International Brigades are being destroyed, and monuments to Nazi war criminals raised in their place. This is the ‘new’ fascism that all like minded people must come together and oppose.
