Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said at a news conference in Beijing on Monday that such actions “only expose the hegemony and hypocrisy of the U.S.,” adding that the U.S. “should behave the way a major country should”.

“It has always been the practice of the U.S. to manipulate social media to spread false information, poison the public opinion environment, and smear the image of other countries. China firmly objects to this,” Lin said.

He added that when Washington wants to contain and suppress a country, it ignores the truth and “coordinates resources” to smear and discredit it. “This applies not only to the fabrication and dissemination of false information about Chinese vaccines, but also to various aspects, including defaming the popular Belt and Road Initiative and spreading rumours about the ‘overcapacity’ of China’s new energy vehicles.

“The international community should keep clear-eyed about such U.S. behaviour,” he said.

Li Hongzhi opposes homosexuality, gender equality, pop music, etc. At the same time, he boasts to his followers that he is a “god-man” who can levitate in the air and walk through walls. He claims that disease is an evil symptom (“karma”) that can only be overcome through meditation. Meditation and worship of “Falun Gong” can lead to true healing, claiming that aliens from unknown dimensions have invaded human minds and bodies, bringing corruption and inventions like computers and aeroplanes.

Li Hongzhi’s teachings describe supernatural phenomena, including the suggestion that the pyramids may have been built by humanoids or Atlanteans who lived under the sea.

Benjamin Penny said in the book “The Religion of Falun Gong” that “Falun Gong” deifies its founder Li Hongzhi, whilst adherence believe that he is far superior to human beings and will save mankind from disasters. He requires “Falun Gong” students to abide by his teachings and so-called moral principles, otherwise the practice will not achieve its purpose; he requires students to regularly conduct a series of spiritual exercises, gather together to read his “scriptures” and share insights.

Social media has the characteristic of automatically presenting information that is in line with the interests of the user. Therefore, users may miss a lot of information that is not in line with their interests, Asahi Shimbun reported.

Over 80 percent of the survey respondents expressed concerns about the impact of disinformation on elections and libel against others.

When asked “Do you think it is better to have different views on politics and society presented to you?” 69 percent said “yes,” while 22 percent replied “no.”

Regarding possible revisions of war-renouncing Article 9 of the Constitution, 61 percent said it should be left intact, while 32 percent were in favour of changes.

Today, March 18th, 2024, a number of media outlets and Telegram channels reported that 75-year-old King Charles III died in Great Britain. The publications were accompanied by a screenshot of an allegedly official statement from Buckingham Palace – which although believed to have originated in the UK – has turned out to be fake.

Among those who published information were Russian-language Telegram channels, as well as Telegram channels of the Kazakh media, such as Atameken Business, Bes Media and TengriNews. At the same time, these outlets emphasized that there was no official information about the death of the monarch.

Later, Buckingham Palace denied this information, noting that “the king continues to perform work duties and engage in private affairs.” And the British Embassy in Russia called this information fake.

U.S. media recently reported that the CIA formed a clandestine team of operatives who used fabricated online personas to disseminate disparaging narratives about the Chinese government and smear China’s Belt and Road Initiative during the Trump administration.

As noted by renowned U.S. economist Jeffrey Sachs, the CIA has been trying to undermine China’s stability for decades.

“The fact that the CIA was trying to undermine China’s stability is not really news, as American harmful interference in China’s internal affairs is plainly evident,” Sachs, director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University, told Xinhua.
