The Congress calls on Party organizations at all levels and all Party members to follow the firm leadership of the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core, hold high the great banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and carry forward the great founding spirit of the Party. They should become more conscious of the need to maintain political integrity, think in big-picture terms, follow the leadership core, and keep in alignment with the central Party leadership; have firm confidence in the path, theory, system, and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics; uphold Comrade Xi Jinping’s core position on the Party Central Committee and in the Party as a whole and uphold the Central Committee’s authority and its centralized, unified leadership; and more purposefully study, observe, apply, and uphold the Party Constitution. BEIJING, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) — Xi Jinping was elected general secretary of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) at the committee’s first plenary session held on Sunday, according to a communique.
The session, presided over by Xi, was attended by 203 members of the 20th CPC Central Committee and 168 alternate members.
Xi was also named chairman of the CPC Central Military Commission at the session.
The members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee elected at the session are Xi Jinping, Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang and Li Xi.
Also elected were members of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee at the session, which endorsed the members of the CPC Central Committee Secretariat nominated by the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.

Kim Jong Un – General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) and Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) – on behalf of the WPK, the government of the DPRK and the people of the DPRK, extended warm congratulations to Comrade General Secretary Xi Jinping, the CPC, the government of the PRC and the brotherly Chinese people.
Kim said that under the leadership of the CPC with the Comrade General Secretary at its core, the Chinese government and people have built a moderately prosperous society in all respects and embarked on a new historical journey of building a modern socialist country in all respects.
Huang, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks while addressing a convention of the Chinese Society of Ideological and Political Work in Beijing.
Huang listed progress in the area since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, recognizing important contributions to the cause of the Party and the country.
The Congress also discussed issues related to the election of the Central Committee. The previous Chairman, Patrick Köbele, and the majority of the members of the Central Committee again put forward their candidacies. Since the Congress was held in an online format, the elections themselves must take place in the form of postal voting in accordance with legal norms. The results will be known only in mid-June.
The Communists of the Donetsk People’s Republic, Headed by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the KPDNR – Boris Litvinov – and representatives of the People’s Patriotic Union of the DPR, laid flowers at the Monument to V.I. Lenin.
