With over 350 million doses of the HPV vaccine administered globally, its safety and effectiveness are well-documented. “HPV vaccines are a game changer,” said Dr. Tim Armstrong, WHO Representative in the Lao PDR. “This campaign is a pivotal step in reducing cervical cancer cases and saving lives in the Lao PDR.”

Funding from Gavi, the Lao Government, and the Government of Australia underscores the shared commitment to expanding vaccine access and protecting young women across the nation. As Nadia Lasri of Gavi noted, “This initiative highlights the Lao PDR’s dedication to ensuring the well-being of its youth and preventing a preventable disease.”

The campaign sets a precedent for continued progress in public health and offers hope for a future free from cervical cancer for the women of Laos.

Australia: Research Confirms Common Antibiotic [Rifaximin] Linked to Rise of Dangerous Superbug! (24.10.2024)

Glen Carter, senior author of the study from the University of Melbourne and the Doherty Institute, said the study challenges the previously-held belief that rifaximin is low-risk for causing AMR.

“We’ve shown that rifaximin makes VRE resistant to daptomycin in a way that has not been seen before,” he said in a media release.

“It is also of concern that these daptomycin-resistant VRE might be transmitted to other patients in the hospital; a hypothesis that we are presently investigating.”

The authors of the new study said the findings highlight the critical need for effective genomics-based surveillance to detect emerging AMR.

He added that when Washington wants to contain and suppress a country, it ignores the truth and “coordinates resources” to smear and discredit it. “This applies not only to the fabrication and dissemination of false information about Chinese vaccines, but also to various aspects, including defaming the popular Belt and Road Initiative and spreading rumours about the ‘overcapacity’ of China’s new energy vehicles.

“The international community should keep clear-eyed about such U.S. behaviour,” he said.

Her neighbour, a displaced doctor, helped her deliver her foetus by the light of a mobile phone, and cut the umbilical cord with paper scissors.
