Wang, 33, had opened the breakfast shop less than a month earlier. He said he wanted to help after thinking about the financial and emotional pressure on families caring for children undergoing chemotherapy. The cash gift was roughly equal to the profit from 25 of his low-priced egg pancakes.

After the story spread online, Wang’s revenue doubled the next day and customer traffic nearly tripled. Some patrons asked that meals be given to delivery riders or sanitation workers instead. Wang later shut down some delivery channels to manage demand, refused donations and pledged to return anonymous transfers, saying he would use part of his profits to support workers in his community.

This ubiquity, combined with domestic disillusionment, has helped fuel a semi-ironic, semi-admiring online fascination.

The earliest trace of the video appeared on July 2nd (2025) in a small Vietnamese Telegram group called “Preview”, which contained 11 users, while screenshots of other chats appeared earliest on June 24th to June 24th (2025). The 41-member group was created by a Vietnamese who could also speak Chinese to promote the sale of videos and photographs of killings. He charged about $100 (US) to join the group that contained videos. It is not clear whether the group of 11 members is a legitimate one. The “Preview” group of 11 members has been confirmed to contain at least one of the videos. It is reported that the cost of the “package” mentioned in the group is $600 (US).

A social media user on the Chinese platform RedNote discovered the white fungal growth on an apple she had bought from a month earlier. She then posted a photo of it online, which soon attracted thousands of likes, including a Xu Rongju, a doctoral student at the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Kunming Institute of Botany.

The institute believed that this is very rare and has research value so it decided to purchase it. The institute identified the growth on the apple as Schizophyllum, also known as the splitgill mushroom – a type of fungus with fan-shaped caps.
