Old Ch'an Dao Gongfu

Ch’an Dao: Confucian Lineage! (8.11.2024)

Of course, the modern world is a very different place to the ancient (feudal) world from which Confucius lived, but nevertheless, so much of modern Chinese culture is premised on just this type of social organisation and spiritual coordination. This is true even when gongfu Styles are accessed through “money” – rather than through “virtue”. This attitude of “Respect” and “Harmony” has permeated the culture of Korea, Japan, and Okinawa – with the latter once being a distant part of the Chinese Empire. By issuing his “Hamon” – Sensei Higaonna is proving that his Style of Goju Ryu Karate-Do is “Chinese” in origination – as indeed it is (premised upon the White Crane gongfu of Fujian province).

Imperial Japanese Army Troops Form-Up - Okinawa!

Book Review: Battle for Okinawa – By Colonel Yahara Hiromichi [八原博通]! (6.8.2024)

When these attacks failed – to prevent rape – Okinawan women and girls threw themselves off of cliffs – together with their young siblings and children. US Servicemen raped Okinawan civilians wherever they were found alive – whilst unarmed Okinawan civilians were shot on sight even in areas where all Imperial Japanese Army Units nolonger existed. This is why so many Okinawan civilians were killed – many even after capture or before they could attack again – according to the Americans. The Okinawans were NOT the passive victims trapped between two battling sides. The Okinawan civilians fought hard against the Americans – attempting to protect their ancestral lands and their ancestral shrines. This is a fascinating and highly important book that tells the story from the other side. The US Army possessed virtually no one who could speak Japanese – as all Japanese-Americans had been placed in Concentration Camps in remote areas of the US.

The US Uses Sexual Violence to Control Its Colonies!

Okinawa: US Sexual Criminality – Women Protest Japanese Government “Silence”! (4.7.2024)

“What’s even more unforgivable is that the Okinawa police didn’t report the cases to the prefectural government. They seem to believe they can act with impunity, a trend of which is becoming more blatant,” she told Xinhua.

Okinawa hosts 70 percent of all U.S. military bases in Japan while accounting for only 0.6 percent of the country’s total land area. Crimes committed by U.S. service members and nonmilitary personnel have been a constant source of grievance for locals.

Tragedies continue to occur decades after massive protests in Japan when in 1995 a 12-year-old girl was raped by three U.S. servicemen. “Okinawans do not know how much similar harm they have to endure for the Japanese government,” a protester lamented.

The Mighty Okinawan Lion!

Ryukyu: Studying the ‘Okinawa’ Name! (22.2.2024)

I was asked about the history and meaning of the name ‘Okinawa’ and ‘Ryukyu’ – both Japanese in origin – but premised upon older Chinese ideograms. At the above link, there is my research regarding the forensic study of the ideograms involved and my conclusions premised upon these findings. The term ‘Okinawa’ appears to be a post-1872 CE construct – at least in regard to the forming of the Japanese Prefecture of that name. Generally, Chinese literature does not use this term – but prefers the far older ‘Lu Qiu’ designation which dates back around 1500-years.

China: History of the Dragon Dance! (19.2.2024)

Hakka people – who are originally from Central and Northern China perform the ‘Phoenix’ Dance. A Chinese Phoenix looks like a Dragon (with different and darker colouring) – but has a central horn (like a Unicorn) on its forehead. Where this idea comes from no one is sure – but there is a rumour that Hakka people are a mixture of Han Chinese and the invading European ‘Hunnish’ Tribes that plagued the Northern borders of China thousands of years ago! The Hakka (Guest People) are responsible for the Qin and Han Dynasties and have spent their time migrating forever Southward over the centuries (bringing their Northern language, culture and martial arts with them).

Randori - An Ancient Japanese Art!

Discussing the ‘Randori’ [乱取り] Concept Found within Okinawan & Japanese Martial Arts! (11.2.2024)

A skill is missing which must be acquired and formulated into an effective code. In other words, the ability to fight is a) lacking, b) must be attained, and c) its principles placed into a logical code for others to follow. Within Okinawan and Japanese martial arts this refers to training for combat – or what is referred to as ‘Sparring’ in the West. This is NOT sport fighting for egotistical reasons – but rather self-defence so that the physical body ‘survives’ any martial encounter. The body may be wounded or unhurt – either it is alive. This is different to gaining a piece of coloured cloth worn around the waist – or a shining tin cup, etc. Fighting for one’s life is very different to fighting for money.
