Israel has awarded 12 licences to six companies for the purpose of exploring natural gas off its Mediterranean coast, in an apparent bid to diversify the country’s energy suppliers and nurture more competition as Tel Aviv aims to become an energy hub to export gas to Europe.

The licences were given to the likes of the Italian company Eni (ENI.MI), the Korean subsidiary Dana Petroleum, the United Kingdom’s British Petroleum (BP), as well as Israel’s Ratio Energies (RATIp.TA), which will explore an area west of the Leviathan field, the site which both supplies Israel with gas and provides exports.

According to Israel’s Energy Minister, Israel Katz, on Sunday: “The winning companies have committed to unprecedented investment in natural gas exploration over the next three years, which would hopefully result in the discovery of new natural gas reservoirs.”

As to whether the actual government of Yemen monitors this page I do not know – but the news stories have not been updated for nearly a year and appear oddly out of touch with the reality of everyday life. Finally, the (racist) Western media habit (mirrored here by Xinhua) is to draw a false distinction between the ‘Houthi’ people and the entire people of ‘Yemen’ – as if the popular government of Yemen (since 2014) does not represent the entirety of the Yemen people! Even when using a VPN – the website of the PFLP is being ‘blocked’ in the West. I am used to this with regards to the news sites emerging from China and North Korea – but the usual reactions that gets around these US suppressions of freedom of speech are not working. Palestine: Dozens of Civilian Casualties in Gaza as Israel’s Genocide Marks 91 days! (5.1.2024)

At least five civilians were also killed and others injured in an Israeli strike on a vehicle in the New Al-Nusseirat refugee camp in central Gaza.

Israeli artillery further targeted the areas of Al-Zawaida, Nuseirat, Maghazi, Al-Bureij in central Gaza, destroying the home of the Al-Louh family near the Wadi Gaza bridge.

In Gaza City, medical sources reported the arrival of the bodies of nine martyrs to Shifa Medical Complex due to Israeli airstrikes targeting residential neighbourhoods. The strikes included areas south of Juhor al-Dik and near Gaza seaport.

In a preliminary toll, the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip for the 91st day has resulted in more than 22,430 fatalities, including 9,730 children and 6,830 women. Additionally, over 7,000 people are missing, and more than 57,600 are injured.
