Tixover: Visiting St Luke’s in the Field Church! (26.10.2025)

We first visited this Church around 2009 – but at that time we were only focusing on the gravestones in St Mary’s Church – Duddington, and ignoring everything else. This was partly due to the early mobile ‘phones and digital cameras possessing a very limited memory. As time went by, and our genealogical research developed, we were asked to include an ever greater scope in our research which we shared online. This coincided with the technology drastically improving. Meanwhile, when we started this “Wyles” research project – we did not even possess a permanent website – and to date we have had two – before settling on the site we now possess. Tixover is just over the bridge at the Western boundary of Duddington – and is about a mile or so down the road. Tixover (Old English meaning “Kids eat grass on a slope” – kids being young goats).

Email: The Problem of Russian Nationalism (26.5.2022)

I do not (and never have) supported modern Russian ‘nationalism’ – which contains disturbing elements of bourgeois racism and homophobia, much of it encouraged by the Orthodox Church. It is the same thinking that has Orthodox Icons placed in tanks as they are constructed in the factories – as if these religious objects possess a similar (or greater) power than the anti-missile technology that is also installed – the design of the tanks and technology being ‘Soviet’ in origin and quite often logical developments of this technology brought into the modern day.

Email: The ‘No’ Hypothesis (20.6.2020)

A genuine scientist is indifferent to religious belief. This probably explains why the Vatican keeps a fully funded scientific department in operation – staffed by suitably qualified priests. An objective fact is the only fact and I will explain why. I remember a group of devout Catholics claiming they saw the face of the Virgin Mary in a stain on a wall. This was a dark oblong stain made by water and mildew, etc, formed in the centre of a otherwise clean, whitewashed wall. So far so good. However, this group went further when challenged and provided photographic and video proof of their experience (which had the potential to change the world as we know it)! Could you imagine an image of the Virgin Mary appearing and talking to the faithful? When the evidence was tested, it revealed 15 minutes of a damp stain on a wall – and nothing else – and yet all the Catholics in attendance had convinced themselves that they were witnessing a miraculous event!
