The comedy duo – “Laurel and Hardy” (Stan Laurel being from the UK) still make millions of people laugh all the time. It would seem that like many people living in the Southern States, the family of Oliver Hardy were originally from England. I find the Confederacy to be a complex period of US history – often misrepresented by prevailing narratives. It is as if the dominant narrative-writers want to hide something that was present in the South between 1861-1865 – but which is inconvenient to know today. My own view is that there was Revolutionary dialectics in operation that could have led the US in an entirely different direction. I find that this observation is just as unpopular with neo-Confederates as it is with the Federal government in Washington DC!

Speaking about the Metropolitan Police’s £10,000 reward, detective chief inspector Sarb Kaur, who is leading the investigation into his disappearance, said: “Alex was reported missing to police on 8 August, 2008.

“Since then, there have been extensive enquiries made by police, but sadly Alex has not yet been found.

“We are now offering a reward of up to £10,000 for anyone who has information relating to Alex’s whereabouts.

“This remains an active missing person investigation, subject to regular review by senior officers, with the aim of locating Alex and bringing some comfort to his family. We have recently met with Alex’s mother to outline how we intend to progress our investigation to find him.

“I would ask anyone with information who could help to please get in contact immediately, no matter how insignificant you think this could be.”

Although a small number of the Confederate soldiers managed to reach the Union lines and engage in hand-to-hand combat, they were ultimately overwhelmed. The charge ended in a disastrous defeat for the Confederates, with more than half of the men involved either killed, wounded, or captured. Meanwhile, on a different part of the battlefield, the Union scored yet another decisive victory at Vicksburg on July 4th, 1863, the day after the defeat at Gettysburg (a conflict had been raging at Vicksburg since the beginning of the war – with the defending Confederates scoring a number of victories – but nothing decisive). Nevertheless, despite these heavy-blows, General Lee managed to muster what was left of his Army and retreat in good order back to the South – and continue the war for another two-years.

A great many of the one-million casualties that Ukraine has suffered are devout Catholic adherents following the dictates of the Vatican. But what of the Church of Ukraine I hear you ask? This is a fake construct concocted by the Vatican to separate the Ukrainian Orthodox followers from their Russian Church. It is all lies that has produced rotting bones in the cold soil of Ukraine. Dying for Western imperialism and the Catholic Church is not a good or noble way of going-out.

Youth Demand described the arrests as “an unprecedented level of police repression”.

‘Democracy has got to have some upsides’

The arrests led to an outcry, with former Downing Street director of communications Guto Harri telling Sunday Morning With Trevor Philips: “Democracy has got to have some upsides, and one of the upsides is that the police don’t come crashing through your door just because you say something that upsets someone.”

When Home Secretary Yvette Cooper was asked about it by Trevor Philips, she said: “We have a long tradition, not just of free speech, but of freedom of assembly.”

She added, however, that the police have operational independence and “the police need to operate independently from the home secretary”.
