She expressed her pain for the plight of Palestinians in Gaza in harsh terms, adding, “They (the people of Gaza) snatch food from filthy ground, and they are exposed to harm as they search for a hole in their bodies to gather a handful of food from the void (referring to the difficulty of collecting or carrying unavailable food).”
She continued, addressing the Palestinians, “Oh people of Gaza… oh Palestinians… your hunger today is a disgrace to us.”The UN rapporteur denounced the international silence and inaction regarding the tragedy of the Palestinians in Gaza.
She added, “We must not allow your suffering to continue if we are too indifferent, lazy, selfish, or corrupt to stop it immediately.”
Since March 2, the occupation has closed the Gaza Strip’s crossings to the entry of food, relief, medical aid, and goods, causing a significant deterioration in the humanitarian situation.
