The content is a criticism of the perceived overlooked brutality of Nazi Germany in the USSR during World War II, particularly during the Battle of Stalingrad. It references Alexander Werth’s 1947 book ‘The Year of Stalingrad’ and accuses post-1945 US of ignoring the racially motivated brutality. About 3 km from the museum lies the Beidaying (Northern Grand Barracks) site that the Japanese troops bombarded. It officially reopened to visitors as an exhibition hall after renovations at the end of 2021.
Through more than 400 historical photos, over 200 relics, electronic maps, scene restorations, panoramic sand tables and other modern techniques, visitors can revisit the history at the exhibition hall.
Wang Lei, a resident of Shenyang, who lives near the former site of the Beidaying Site, said, “There were a few ordinary bungalows here, but now the site has been turned into an exhibition hall. It is very important to remember the history of the war. We should let young people know that this is the place where our national calamity occurred.”
The memorial was unveiled on 16 March 1921 by Admiral Sir Arthur Henry Limpus KCMG, CB and dedicated by the Archdeacon of Kingston, Robert Charles Joynt.The carving and erection were carried out by a local mason Mr Snook of nearby Worcester Park. Among the dead commemorated on the memorial was Flight-Commander F A Brock (son of Brock of Brocks fireworks manufacturers) who invented the smoke screen. Following the Second World War, three names of those who lost their lives in that war were also added.
The presidential decree ordered all active cases to be transferred to the traditional military court.
“All cases referred to military field courts in their current state are to be transferred to military judiciary for prosecution in accordance with the provisions of the penal code and the principles of military trials,” read the presidential decree.
According to Legislative Decree No. 109 of 1968, later amended by two other legislative decrees, the military field court is responsible for crimes falling under the jurisdiction of the military court during times of war and military operations.
The new decision comes as Syria has returned to the Arab fold and the Syrian government was reportedly required to boost the effort for a political solution to the country’s more than 12-year war.
