China: Newly Released “Epstein Files” Fuel Political Fallout in Multiple Countries! (10.2.2026)

In Britain, Morgan McSweeney has resigned as chief of staff to Prime Minister Keir Starmer amid allegations that he was responsible for the appointment of Peter Mandelson to the position of ambassador to the United States, Sky News reported Sunday.

Mandelson, 72, was appointed ambassador to Washington in early 2025. Starmer later dismissed him after just seven months in the post amid fallout from an earlier release of Epstein-related files.

Mandelson’s name has reappeared in media coverage of the latest disclosures. British police have opened a criminal investigation into him over alleged misconduct in public office, including questions related to the handling of sensitive information.

“The decision to appoint Peter Mandelson was wrong,” McSweeney said in a resignation letter published by local media. “He has damaged our party, our country and trust in politics itself. When asked, I advised the prime minister to make that appointment and I take full responsibility for that advice.”

Starmer on Thursday also apologized for his previous decision to appoint Mandelson as the ambassador, saying that he had underestimated the seriousness of Mandelson’s past association with Epstein.

In the sentencing of Lai, the court found that Lai was the “mastermind and driving force” behind conspiracies to collude with external forces and to publish seditious materials. After considering Lai’s grave criminal conduct as well as his mitigation, the court handed down the sentence of 20 years’ imprisonment, with two of the years overlapping with the prison term Lai is currently serving.

Central government agencies in Hong Kong, as well as local authorities, have voiced support for the sentencing.

The sentence of 20 years’ imprisonment imposed on Jimmy Lai manifested that the rule of law is upheld and justice is done, and also brought great relief to all, said HKSAR Chief Executive John Lee.

Lai betrayed the country and harmed the HKSAR, causing damage to the interests of the country and the HKSAR. His conviction is supported by overwhelming evidence, and he for sure deserves his punishment after all the harm he has done, Lee said.

So, from the perspective of the Chinese people? I believe that any rational Chinese today will have a simple idea: fortunately, I was not born in the United States. Fortunately, this happened under their system. This strengthens our conclusion: only socialism can save China, and only the Communist Party of China can lead China. Without such political parties, systems and road design, no one can jump out of the ruts and dilemmas of the development model that the United States represents.

From the “big reconciliation” discussion of “drinking coffee and drinking human blood” at the beginning of 2023, to the concept of “killing line” at the end of the year providing us with a new perspective on American society, to the unfolding of the Epstein Papers in early 2024 – we are systematically seeing the back and dark side of this “lighthouse” from a level-up or even top-down perspective: from the “killing line” at the bottom to the “Loli Island” at the top, a complete map is gradually becoming clear.

This will not be the last time something like this happens – the White House has taken it down, blaming a junior staffer – which is odd as we are told Trump does all his own posting and it went up at midnight – but at least it’s not up there anymore.

But the damage has been done, whatever mask there may have been has slipped.

The test for all of us now comes in how we respond the next time it happens.

Donald Trump has not apologised for the video, shared on his Truth Social account, depicting Barack and Michelle Obama as apes, saying “I didn’t make a mistake”.

The post was deleted around 12 hours after being shared.

The US president said “of course” he condemned the racist parts of the video.

In 1973, the Department of Justice sued Donald Trump and his father for alleged racial discrimination at Trump housing developments in New York. The case was settled two years later with no admission of guilt.

The five men wrongly convicted of raping a woman in Central Park have sued Donald Trump on accusations of making “false and defamatory” statements during a presidential debate against former vice president Kamala Harris in 2024.

Mr Trump has tried to have the lawsuit dismissed, but has so far been unsuccessful.

However, that “no cost” contains a bitter truth: it is the result of a titanic effort by the Cuban State to sustain what is free while navigating against a tide of prohibitions.
