Eire: Last Known Battle of Britain pilot – Irishman John Hemingway – Dies Aged 105! (18.3.2025)

Mr Hemingway was one of 36 Irish pilots who fought in the Battle of Britain, including Wing Commander Brendan ‘Paddy’ Finucane, who was one of the RAF’s most successful fighter aces in the war, and Victor Beamish, a scion of the brewing industry. Both were killed in the war.

In 2019, Mr Hemingway gave an interview to The Irish Times on the occasion of his 100th birthday. He told military historian Joseph Quinn: “I can’t say don’t drink. I can’t say don’t fool about with people. I can’t say don’t fly aeroplanes. I can’t say don’t shoot and get shot at – I’ve done everything, and I’m an Irishman. The only advice I can give to people is be Irish!”

Mr Hemingway’s wife Bridget died in 1998. They had three children.

He lived with daughter in Canada for many years before returning to Ireland in 2011. Mr Hemingway spent his last years in the Trinity Care Foxrock Nursing Home.

We must fully implement the Party’s overall strategy for resolving the Taiwan issue in the new era, deepen cross-strait integration and development in all fields, promote the spiritual harmony of compatriots on both sides of the strait, and resolutely oppose any form of “Taiwan Independence” secessionist activities. We must widely unite and contact overseas Chinese and guide them to convey China’s voice. We must serve the overall situation of the country’s foreign affairs and tell the world the story of China and the story of Chinese people’s democracy.”

Tens of Thousands of Koreans Forced to Work in Japan!

DPRK: Press Statement – Association of Korean Victims of WWII Forcible Drafting and Bereaved Families! (14.3.2025)

Hundreds of B-29 large bombers of the U.S. forces flew into the sky over Tokyo and Osaka of Japan on March 10 and 13, 1945, the end of the Pacific War ignited by the Japanese imperialists, made massive air raids while dropping incendiaries and other bombs at random.

At that time the Japanese imperialists kept Koreans in custody in groups, claiming that Koreans who had been subjected to subhuman maltreatment and humiliation, dangerous and toilsome labour could escape in the confusion of air raids. As a result, many Koreans died an accidental death.

According to “Study of War Responsibilities” No.53, the organ of the Japanese Data Center for War Responsibilities, on the damage of Korean people in the large-scale air raids on Tokyo, the war victims are 41 300 and the death toll will far exceed 10 000.

Betsy & Gene in Happy Days!

Hackman Latest – Santa Fe Police Call-In “Dog Voice Therspists” to Crack Case! (5.3.2025)

The Police have engaged Dog Voice Therspists – experts in a type of K-9 body and sign language – to communicate with the two surviving dogs to see if any information can be gleamed from their memory of events. It is early days and the process is slow – as it appears that the dogs belonged to Betsy – and prefer to communicate in Hawaiian-Japanese. The two experts currently available specialise in American-English and face an up-hill battle. The latest report suggests that both dogs assert that their grandparents do not know the grandparents of the translators – and therefore it would be impolite to share any intimate information regarding their owner – or the non-Japanese man she chose to live with. We will keep you updated as more information becomes available.

PRC Moon Shot!

China: Manned Lunar Programme Adnvances for 2030 Moon Landing! (4.3.2025)

After reaching their pre-set orbital positions, the Lanyue lander and the Mengzhou vessel will rendezvous and dock. Two crew members will enter the lander, which will then undock and descend toward the lunar surface for an engine-assisted soft landing.

On the moon, the cosmonauts will drive a Tansuo rover to carry out scientific tasks and collect samples. Upon completion of their assignments, they will return to the Lanyue module, which will fly them back to their spaceship waiting in lunar orbit.

In the final stage, the astronauts will carry the samples into the Mengzhou spacecraft, which will then undock and carry the crew back to Earth.

To prepare for the challenging adventure, China has selected its fourth group of cosmonauts, who are currently training for lunar landing and surface operations.

Inside the Tunnels

UK: Inside the London’s Abandoned Tunnels – Under Clapham South Northern Line Tube Station! (3.3.2025)

Despite the difficult circumstances, in an oral history played out loud to visitors, Margaret reminisces fondly about her time in the shelter.

“I had a wonderful time,” she explains. “I was an only child, and I made friends. We used to rush up and down the tunnels.

“People were all in the same boat down there. It was a great leveller. Whether you were rich, poor or whatever you were. If you were homeless.

“People were very kind to each other, much more than they are now. It’s funny isn’t it, that it takes a war to do that.”

After the end of the conflict, the shelters continued to be used as cheap hotel accommodation costing three shillings a night, equivalent to £4 today.

Guests at Clapham South included those who arrived in Britain from the Caribbean as part of the Windrush Generation.

But in 1956, after a fire at the Goodge Street station shelter, the Government decided to abandon the tunnels.

Today, they are mainly used as archive storage, although the tunnels under Clapham Common once housed a hydroponic farm.

For anyone who wants to check out the shelter themselves, new dates for the ‘Hidden London’ tour were released earlier this week, with tickets costing £38.
