Indeed, those scholars who developed the Commentarial material that seeks to explain the Book of Change (Yijing) – often attempt to superimpose the ancient “hard” and “soft” with the concept of “yang” and “yin” – although the amorphous nature of this schematic means that one quantity is continuously exchanged for the other. When lecturing in China – this often becomes an interesting and contentious point of discussion. Many are unaware that the yin-yang ideal is not that old as it is presented as all conquering in many Chinese-language texts. Whatever the case, I keep in contact with a number of Goju Ryu practitioners – as this is a style of fighting I explored in my youth. This is what the West is attempting to preserve by high-jacking the reincarnation process – a fictional religious practice. The imagined 15th Dalai lama will be reborn somewhere in China – not New York, Chicago, or Philadelphia!

Indeed, what non-Chinese people must do is understand this fact and make a concerted effort to learn from ethnic Chinese speakers what the Chinese language means and cooperate with ethnic Chinese people in the process of presenting this correct meaning to a non-Chinese audience. The Chinese language does not belong to the West – it belongs to the Chinese people! It is the United States that has murdered 20-30 million people around the globe since 1945 to present in the propagation of its socio-economic system – and not China! China has the right to defend itself against US Neo-Imperialism and part of this defence is the correct and appropriate use of the Chinese language!

For instance, by cross-referencing the below May 1955 Dharma-Talk with the text of ‘Empty Cloud’ for that year – a more all-round picture can be built of exactly what was happening and how Master Xu Yun was reacting to it. To be clear, Master Xu Yun was adamant that an ordained Buddhist monastic must follow ALL the rules of the Vinaya Discipline and that a lay-person must follow a least five, eight or ten of the basic vows contained in the Vinaya Discipline. This is a practical distinction Master Xu Yun upheld – as he rejected the Japanese Zen tradition of monks being allowed to eat meat, drink alcohol and get married. Such individuals are ‘lay-people’ and NOT monks. This being the case, what is Master Xu Yun referring to when he states that there is ‘no difference’ between the ordained Sangha and the laity?

I am happy to say that Mexico and China have a lot of communication in all aspects, whether it is economic relations, political relations, or academic relations. Exchange students, scholarship establishment, visiting scholars, travel, language learning… all kinds of communications.

In ancient times, “sinologists” were scholars who spread Chinese culture by learning and translating Chinese. They specialized in the study of traditional Chinese culture. And now the term is widely used for any scholar who studies China, even contemporary China.
