Indeed, what non-Chinese people must do is understand this fact and make a concerted effort to learn from ethnic Chinese speakers what the Chinese language means and cooperate with ethnic Chinese people in the process of presenting this correct meaning to a non-Chinese audience. The Chinese language does not belong to the West – it belongs to the Chinese people! It is the United States that has murdered 20-30 million people around the globe since 1945 to present in the propagation of its socio-economic system – and not China! China has the right to defend itself against US Neo-Imperialism and part of this defence is the correct and appropriate use of the Chinese language!

For instance, by cross-referencing the below May 1955 Dharma-Talk with the text of ‘Empty Cloud’ for that year – a more all-round picture can be built of exactly what was happening and how Master Xu Yun was reacting to it. To be clear, Master Xu Yun was adamant that an ordained Buddhist monastic must follow ALL the rules of the Vinaya Discipline and that a lay-person must follow a least five, eight or ten of the basic vows contained in the Vinaya Discipline. This is a practical distinction Master Xu Yun upheld – as he rejected the Japanese Zen tradition of monks being allowed to eat meat, drink alcohol and get married. Such individuals are ‘lay-people’ and NOT monks. This being the case, what is Master Xu Yun referring to when he states that there is ‘no difference’ between the ordained Sangha and the laity?

Flora Botton: Mexico and China have established diplomatic relations for more than 50 years. I am happy to say that Mexico and China have a lot of communication in all aspects, whether it is economic relations, political relations, or academic relations. Furthermore, there is no such entity as ‘British’ English – as this is an insulting designation that reduces our original language of ‘English’ to a relative construct, or just one version amongst many. This is similar to reducing Chinese script to the scripts as developed by its Korean or Japanese cousins. Indeed, American-English is a vehicle which has been historically developed and designed to express a) US anti-intellectualism, and b) US racial (anti-Chinese) attitudes. This is why I reject the Chinese State habit of officially using ‘American-English’ when translating Chinese-language articles into ‘English’. The English language as spoken and written in the UK is ancient and historically pre-exists any modern notions of Western racism (unlike its Ameican counter-part – which expresses the racism within which US culture has developed). Therefore, the English as used in the UK possesses a historical ‘strength in depth’ – that can be moulded in any direction as required.

The far-right ‘lies’ to its audience. This stems from Adolf Hitler’s ‘Mein Kampf’ – within which he advocates ‘lying’ about everything as a means to leverage political advantage, control and influence. The Sanskrit terms ‘Shakya’, ‘Buddha’ and ‘Aryan’, etc, have absolutely NOTHING to do with the modern notions underpinning the ideology of ‘White Supremacy’! As the average person lacks the specialist knowledge required to navigate this complex territory in the West – the far-right ideologues deceitfully take advantage of this fact and attempt to fill the vacuum with inaccurate, misunderstood or misleading information! As the saying goes – ‘The price of freedom is eternal vigilance!’
