ABC and other newspapers reported that a mechanical sweeping machine had caught fire in the site.

The site was built as a mosque — on the site of an earlier church — between the 8th and 10th centuries by the southern city’s then Muslim ruler, Abd ar-Rahman, an emir of the Umayyad dynasty.

After Christians reconquered Spain in the 13th century under King Ferdinand III of Castile, it was converted into a cathedral and architectural alterations were made over following centuries.

UNESCO designated the building a World Heritage Site in 1984, calling it “an architectural hybrid that joins together many of the artistic values of East and West and includes elements hitherto unheard-of in Islamic religious architecture, including the use of double arches.”

London: 28 Countries Condemn Israel Over “Suffering of Civilians in Gaza”! (22.7.2025)

The statement in question was signed by the Foreign Ministers of the following countries – Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Greece, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK. Just “why” so many of these countries are outside the EU (even Europe in the case of Japan) is something of a mystery (although ALL might be said to be allies of the US). Either way, and perhaps ironically, China did not sign – or was excluded from signing – I suspect the latter (as China has been calling for peace since day one – when all these listed countries were busy funding, arming, and politically excusing Israel’s criminal behaviour). A cynical take on statements such as this is that they are issued knowing nothing will be done to help Gaza – and that Israel will continue its brutal land-grab unopposed. Is such a scenario, this type of statement serves as a security measure in case any of the international legal actions against Israel gain any legal traction. Should the Israeli leaders end-up in the dock and answering for their War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity – then the Western enablers of these monsters will be brought to the fore. Being able to produce this rather feeble effort of a statement probably amounts to something akin to a “legal defence” in the mind of David Lammy!

The people of New England threatened to “Secede” from the Union (as was their right) if the US moved forward with this plan. The situation was defused by President Polk – who guaranteed NOT to use any military force (amateur or professional) originating within New England – or comprised of New England men (if recruited outside of New England). This agreement prevented New England from “Seceding” – and effectively rendered that State “neutral” for the duration of hostilities.

Despite the breakdown in talks, the regional government has reported that the strike is unfolding calmly and without incident. The Deputy Minister for Tourism, José Manuel Sanabria, stressed that while the government respects the right to strike, it must also ensure the safety and well-being of guests, as the strike coincides with one of the busiest times of the year.
