In the old days, the local Courts would often sentence local people to a set-time in the Stocks. With their hands and feet firmly manacled into the device – the interested village population could take it in-turns to throw rotten fruit and vegetables – together with animal waste and other such horrible substances, at the condemned. This was at a time when long sentences of imprisonment were not yet used as a punishment. This treatment was designed to be so humiliating that a villager would not dare commit a similar crimnal act in the future – or at least that was the intention.

US: Trump Suggests Expelling Spain from NATO! (10.10.2025)

“They have no excuse not to do this,” Trump told reporters at the White House during a meeting with visiting Finnish President Alexander Stubb. “Maybe you should throw them out of NATO frankly.”

“You people are gonna have to start speaking to Spain,” Trump said. “You have to call them and find why are they a laggard.”

Under pressure from Trump, NATO members in June agreed to raise their military spending to 5 percent of gross domestic product by 2035.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez rejected the target, calling it “incompatible with our welfare state and our world vision.”

UK: Daoism and the Politics of Ageing! (30.9.2025)

For me, it was obvious that “virtue” equated to “longevity” – and it had nothing to do with the Bible or Western religion (the godly live to very old ages). The Western view was (and remains) that non-Christians are essentially evil and therefore are unable to live to very old ages. The Devil strikes them down due to his own inherent corruption – which flows through their veins. As a non-Christian, this description would involve myself – but here’s the thing – I do not feel any more or less good or bad than anyone else. Furthermore, I was told that Chinese people “lie” about their age in an attempt to mimic those who lived very long lives in the Old Testament (according to the Jews). I could not understand this approach – as Chinese Daoism is an ancient teaching (in one form or another) that specialises in “life-extension”. Virtue (德 – De) is a product of climbing a tower (self-cultivation) so that when the top is reached (enlightenment) – things can be seen in a 360 degree perspective.

ABC and other newspapers reported that a mechanical sweeping machine had caught fire in the site.

The site was built as a mosque — on the site of an earlier church — between the 8th and 10th centuries by the southern city’s then Muslim ruler, Abd ar-Rahman, an emir of the Umayyad dynasty.

After Christians reconquered Spain in the 13th century under King Ferdinand III of Castile, it was converted into a cathedral and architectural alterations were made over following centuries.

UNESCO designated the building a World Heritage Site in 1984, calling it “an architectural hybrid that joins together many of the artistic values of East and West and includes elements hitherto unheard-of in Islamic religious architecture, including the use of double arches.”
