Uganda’s Wakaliwood: Talented Local Man Films Low-Budget Shaolin-Inspired Martial Arts Films!

In addition, the power supply in the slums is unstable. There is only about 3 days of electricity a week. Whether it is shooting or editing, it needs to be carefully planned. The power of the dream, however, helps the actors to persevere. After finishing each film – it is engraved onto DVD discs, each priced at 45 cents (about 3 yuan), and then people go door-to-door in costumes used in the film. Usually, a movie will earn about 300 yuan. Even though the road seems difficult and endless, the actors never gave up and maintain a high degree of enthusiasm for filming. Over the past few years, through the efforts of Isaac and his companions, more than 40 films have been completed such as ‘Who Killed Captain Alex’ and ‘The Return of Uncle Benon’! These films, which combine Ugandan culture with Chinese culture, (as well as elements such as gunfights and gongfu), have received a lot of likes and attention on YouTube, and are referred to as ‘people who really love movies’. ‘Who Killed Captain Alex’ even attracted an American fan – Alan Hoffmanis! He gathered his things together and travelled to Uganda to offer his expertise in the filming and editing process!

Three Scientists Win China’s 2022 Future Science Prize! (22.8.2022)

Between 1911-1949 – the corrupt ‘Nationalist’ government (which had experimented with fascism and rapid and sudden ‘Westernisation’ without a popular mandate) not only attacked and destroyed the famous pinnacle of ‘Chinese’ identity’ – the Shaolin Temple in Henan – but failed miserably to relieve poverty and achieve any significant change for the ordinary peasant population! Genuine Socialism (as defined by Marx, Lenin and Mao Zedong) is driven only by scientific progress – because it is only through the rigours of science that ALL problems existing within (material) human society can be a) ‘understood’ and b) ‘solved’ by a science firmly controlled by the working-class and unshackled from the incessant search for profit exhibited by the predatory capitalist system! Surely, Vladimir Mayakovsky and his ‘Communist Futurism’ movement would be proud of Communist China and the new generation of scientists its universal education system has produced!

How Old Is The Term Taijiquan? (13.7.2013)

‘The body of Henning’s article may be considered a rehash of the old ‘Wudang’ vs. ‘Shaolin’ mythology, with the facts (where they can be established), presented in a logical, if not meandering fashion; dates, names of emperors and portions of lineages, etc. China’s ‘Self Strengthening’ movement is mentioned near the end, as the final impetus for the association of Zhang Sanfeng with the development of Taijiquan – but oddly enough, Henning (who has written in military journals), does not acknowledge that this movement developed in China as a response to the rampant Western Imperialist aggression typical of the time. Curiously Henning makes no reference to the pre-Song uses of the term ‘Taiji’ which are known to refer to the practice (and usage) of martial arts. It is ironic therefore, that Henning would refer to Chinese myths and legends as ‘ignorance’, when so much of his historical omissions and oversights could well attract a similar criticism.’
