“In 1910,” she added, “the first international conference on women’s issues was held in Denmark, with over 100 representatives from 17 countries. The conference officially recognized March 8 as International Women’s Day. Since then, March 8 has become a significant political event, marking a fundamental victory for the international women’s movement in the struggle for the legitimate rights and interests of working women worldwide. The movement’s slogans include ‘8 hours of work a day, equal pay for equal work for men and women, health protection for women and children, opposition to war and aggression, and the preservation of world peace.’ Today, March 8 is celebrated in many countries around the world.”

The problem is so bad that even gay groups side with the opinions of bourgeois reaction and attack the progressive record of the USSR. This is why I do not support “bourgeois” gay rights groups per se (although I do support gay people in general). This is because bourgeois gay people are class enemies who support predatory capitalism. On the other hand, I do support Revolutionary workers who might choose to identify as Socialists or Communists first and foremost – and who are also distinctive in their other self-perceptions (a small number of the original Bolsheviks are said to have been gay – with this being known to Lenin). The point is that fighting for bourgeois acceptance is not good enough – as it leaves all the injustices of capitalism in place. It is through the overthrow of capitalism that all other Revolutionary change will come. Just being bourgeois and gay is not good enough!

Sheep are very sensitive animals. This includes goats and rams – not always the same thing. Under Labour, the manner in which sheep congregate together has subtly shifted. In the average flock today, the shepherds will tell you that their is a profound sense of fear seven-days a week – and not just on Market-Day – or when the “special” lorry arrives. The texture of the wool has diminished in quality – as has the production of milk and meat. As you know, sheep-milk is used to make a myriad of alternative dairy products – including niche cheese and yoghurt. Yes – such products cost a little more – but this reflects the greater extent of labour required to manufacture these products.

The first female clerks, responsible for typewriting invoices and the telephone exchange, were employed in 1885. The new hires may have been surprised to find the company brochure had a dedicated ladies’ section called ‘Matters Feminine’. However, the suffragettes would not have been too impressed with its content. Topics mainly included cooking, family and fashion.

‘It is all very well for a man to smile at the feminine love of clothes, and dismiss them as being of very little importance in life. Women know better. Husbands, who profess not to admire fashions, are not slow to complain at the dowdy appearance of their wives,’ read one passage.

In the following decades, many of the women employed found promotions were very much possible. Anne Edwards, who got a job as a clerical assistant in 1957, wrote: “Brilliant employers, they paid for me to attend Pitman’s College to extend my shorthand skills. They monitored my progress, my typewriting skills and promoted me from junior to manager’s secretary in the same department. I loved working there.”

My colleagues and Comrades in the Southern States gifted me this T-Shirt for the Festive Season! Its narrative and inscription combine history and contemporary politics – with an injection of a little critical humour! Still, many different interpretations of the “American” Revolution are being played-out here.

“It’s important because the mainstream media doesn’t often report on whatever’s happening to trans or queer people,” said Stephan Kyriacou. “I think if it can be overhauled, that will make a massive difference.”

Gary said there was a need for “authentic queer-led journalism and queer-led stories” but said “unfortunately PinkNews has kind of lost its credibility in that arena”.

Damian told us he believed PinkNews’ future could only be secured if Mr Cohen and Dr James took a step back.

“The fact you cannot separate the two is extremely problematic,” he said. “Ben needs to be held to account. Until the day that happens, I don’t know if there’s a future for PinkNews.”

The BBC was informed that Mr Cohen and Dr James were not able to provide a statement at this time, but we understand that their position is that the allegations made against them are false.
