In other words, the Police cannot properly punish the homeless in the modern era under the 1824 Act – and it must be updated and reformed. Labour thinks it can gain some short-term credit for an apparent “humanitarian” act – when in reality all the powers contained in the 1824 Act are being updated and transferred into a reformed Crime and Policing Bill. This change is superficial and will see the Police given far more relevant powers to arrest, persecute, and/or move on the homeless in many more imaginative and creative ways that by-pass all the legal powers that charities currently use to support and protect the homeless, etc. This is a Labour “attack” on homelessness – disguised as “progress” and “improvement”.

Shadow home secretary Chris Philp said they had failed to stop thousands of migrants crossing the Channel in small boats, accusing France of “taking no action whatsoever at sea and often ushering the illegal immigrants into UK waters”.

“Yet when a UK fishing vessel is in French waters all of a sudden they are magically able to act. If the French can now intercept boats then they should start stopping the boats with illegal immigrants – as international law obliges them to do.”

The UK and the EU have struck a deal that covers fishing, trade, defence, energy and strengthening ties in a number of policy areas still up for negotiation.

A key part of the deal involves giving European fishing boats a further 12 years of access to British waters in exchange for easing some trade frictions.

Critics from the Conservatives and Reform UK described the deal as a “surrender” to the EU, while the Liberal Democrats said the government had taken some “positive first steps” to rebuilding ties with Europe.

Of course, the deficient mind-set of Trump is informed using American-English and the anti-intellectualism that encourages. Imagine that – White racists are deemed “victims” of the toxic environment they helped to build in South Africa – then brought to America as conquering heroes! Mind you, the UK has been bringing-in (Neo-Nazi) Eastern Europeans and privileging then for years – punishing the impoverished (indigenous) population if it dares to complain or speak-out. Demonising the opposition – and preventing any countering answer – is the nature of the game today. If my leg is cut-off, its my fault for having two-legs in the first place – as I can always get about quite happily on one leg (NHS take note). This is the bizarre (superficial) world we now inhabit – where objective truth is whatever the powerful and the wilful mob decide it to be. She added: “Universities tend to always ask for NDAs in these employment cases, but I will be resisting that because I do not see why a settlement should be dependent on my silence.” The Observer revealed last year that two-thirds of core tutorial teaching at Oxford is done by academics on what the University and College Union calls “Deliveroo-style” hourly-paid roles or precarious fixed-term contracts.

Jolly said she initially thought that the “sham contracts” she and Abrams had were unusual. “But we talked to young academics and realised no one could get a mortgage and people were stuck in this totally insecure situation for years.” It was an “open secret” the two women decided they had an obligation to expose.

After their court victory, Law for Change, the charitable litigation fund which supported the pair, said the case would secure better contract rights for lecturers at Oxford, but also help others working on “exploitative contracts” right across academia.

I do not like the new Shogun series as many of the lead-roles are played by Western-born Asian women – who “pretend” to be ethnically Japanese (again the script-writers are White). Japanese-born women are “Japanese” – they do not have to hide their “Americanness” to play a stereotypical part (usually the insane and deceptive temptress). I do not agree with the fascists – who hate everyone who possesses a different colour skin – but I do draw the line at White people thinking they can talk for non-White people. This is not an appropriate way of doing things. I do not like Nccuti Gatwa’s Dr Who because I can see clearly the dissonance between his “Blackness” and the “Whiteness” of the pen of RTD!

Laos: Mooncake Festival Celebrated with Chinese Poetry! (14.9.2024)

Speaking at the event, Vice President of the NUOL Thongsouk Keomany said this event has built a platform for Lao teachers and students to appreciate the friendly cooperation between Laos and China, further enhancing the traditional friendship and mutual understanding between the two countries.

Li Yiping, director of the China Cultural Centre in Laos, said this was the first time that the China Cultural Centre in Laos and the NUOL jointly organized the poetry event “Viewing the Same Moon Together — Reading Poems for the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival,” which promotes the traditional Chinese culture and Chinese poetry into campuses and among Lao youth.

Li emphasized that it is important to promote cultural exchanges between China and Laos.

The Mid-Autumn Festival, taking place annually on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese lunar calendar, will be observed on Sept. 17 this year.
