China: Counter-Measures Against US Military Companies and Senior Executives Announced! (29.12.2024)

“These seriously violate the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. Joint Communiqués, interfere in China’s internal affairs, and undermine China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” according to China’s Foreign Ministry.

Pursuant to Articles 3, 4, 5, 6, 9 and 15 of the Law of the People’s Republic of China on Countering Foreign Sanctions, China decided to take countermeasures against seven companies as listed in the attached List of Targets of Countermeasures, i.e., Insitu, Inc., Hudson Technologies Co., Saronic Technologies, Inc., Raytheon Canada, Raytheon Australia, Aerkomm Inc. and Oceaneering International, Inc., and relevant senior executives:

Their movable and immovable properties and other kinds of assets within China shall be frozen.

All organizations and individuals within China shall be prohibited from engaging in transaction, cooperation and other activities with them.

This decision took effect immediately upon its announcement on Dec. 27, 2024.

Hong Kong: Revised List of Seven Anti-China “Criminals” Issued! (26.12.2024)

Chris Tang Ping-Keung, secretary for security of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government, on Tuesday, exercised the powers conferred by the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance to specify seven absconders and the measures to be applied against them by notices published in the gazette.

The seven relevant absconders are Hui Chi-fung, Kwok Fung-yee, Yuan Gong-yi, Kwok Wing-hang, Yam Kevin, Hui Wing-ting and Siu Joey.

The Hong Kong police force also put six other individuals on the wanted list on suspicion of violating the national security law in Hong Kong.

The law enforcement actions by the Hong Kong police force are based on the Hong Kong national security law and Safeguarding National Security Ordinance, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning told a daily news briefing.

The acts uphold the rule of law and respond to public opinion in Hong Kong, she said.

China: Internet Search-Engine Algorithm to Ensure Workers’ Rights! (26.11.2024)

The statement emphasized the need to improve technical means to detect and identify fake accounts and malicious ranking manipulations, strictly regulating illegal activities that exploit ranking rules to manipulate lists and hype topics.

Besides content and information distribution, the campaign also focuses on the rights of workers and consumers involved in internet services.

The commission’s statement highlighted the need to prevent internet platforms from blindly pursuing profits at the expense of workers providing services.

The number of those workers surpassed 84 million in China as of 2023, according to the All-China Federation of Trade Unions. This group of workers includes food delivery riders, ride-hailing drivers and couriers.

Among them, there are 13 million food delivery riders. In recent years, these riders have often violated traffic rules to deliver food as quickly as possible, due to the requirement by food delivery platforms to deliver orders within a specified time, or face wage deductions.

The statement stressed the importance of preventing platforms from excessively reducing delivery times, which leads to more frequent delivery delays, traffic violations and accidents.

Put simply, leaving my house is hard. Very fatiguingly hard.

At the restaurant, more customers expressed their shock at the way I was treated. But for me, the customers who seemed annoyed sparked echoes in my mind of every occasion I’ve shared refusals to social media over the past eight years.
There I’ve faced constant demands to justify why I should want equal treatment and, more perturbingly, threats of violence and even death.
Two years ago, I was refused access to different branches of Tesco in London.
Tesco apologised and promised further training for staff.

Regarding the challenges and requests submitted by the Israeli occupation authorities, the Court said that the Chamber received two requests submitted by Israel on 26 September 2024. In the first request, Israel challenged the Court’s jurisdiction over the situation in the State of Palestine in general, and over “Israeli nationals” more specifically, on the basis of Article 19(2) of the Statute. In the second request, Israel requested the Chamber to order the Prosecution to submit a new notification of the commencement of an investigation to its authorities under Article 18(1) of the Statute. Israel also requested the Chamber to stay any proceedings before the Court in the relevant situation, including the consideration of the requests for arrest warrants against Netanyahu and Galant.

“This act of double standards is a serious blasphemy against the spirit of the rule of law and a gross violation of the principles of international law such as non-interference in internal affairs,” the spokesperson said.

Since the implementation of the national security law in Hong Kong, Hong Kong’s political ecology has been purified, social order restored, the spirit of the rule of law demonstrated, the business environment improved. The HKSAR government has operated efficiently, a growing number of global investors have come to Hong Kong, and Hong Kong’s status as an international financial centre has been strengthened, the spokesperson said.
