He mentioned that the 1,000 bicycles, delivered via the China-Laos Railway — a symbol of the friendship between the two countries — reflect the strong bond between the people of Laos and China.

One of the recipients, Athit Khounthavong, a Lao student, shared his excitement upon receiving a new bicycle. “It was very inconvenient to go to school before, as it took me half an hour to walk. Now, with the bicycle, I can get to school in just 10 minutes. Going to school has become much more convenient!” he said.

With over 350 million doses of the HPV vaccine administered globally, its safety and effectiveness are well-documented. “HPV vaccines are a game changer,” said Dr. Tim Armstrong, WHO Representative in the Lao PDR. “This campaign is a pivotal step in reducing cervical cancer cases and saving lives in the Lao PDR.”

Funding from Gavi, the Lao Government, and the Government of Australia underscores the shared commitment to expanding vaccine access and protecting young women across the nation. As Nadia Lasri of Gavi noted, “This initiative highlights the Lao PDR’s dedication to ensuring the well-being of its youth and preventing a preventable disease.”

The campaign sets a precedent for continued progress in public health and offers hope for a future free from cervical cancer for the women of Laos.

Laos: Mooncake Festival Celebrated with Chinese Poetry! (14.9.2024)

Speaking at the event, Vice President of the NUOL Thongsouk Keomany said this event has built a platform for Lao teachers and students to appreciate the friendly cooperation between Laos and China, further enhancing the traditional friendship and mutual understanding between the two countries.

Li Yiping, director of the China Cultural Centre in Laos, said this was the first time that the China Cultural Centre in Laos and the NUOL jointly organized the poetry event “Viewing the Same Moon Together — Reading Poems for the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival,” which promotes the traditional Chinese culture and Chinese poetry into campuses and among Lao youth.

Li emphasized that it is important to promote cultural exchanges between China and Laos.

The Mid-Autumn Festival, taking place annually on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese lunar calendar, will be observed on Sept. 17 this year.

Laos News: Annual Memorial to Chinese Legendary Ancestor Huang Di Marks Blessing to the Nation! (17.4.2024)

At 10:40 a.m., Kong Changsheng, chairman of the Henan Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, announced the conclusion of the Memorial Ceremony, which was witnessed by about 5,000 attendees, including representatives from all walks of life and reporters from nearly 100 media organizations.

The grand Memorial is not only a cultural event, but also a platform for cooperation and exchanges aimed at promoting mutually beneficial development. This year’s ceremony was held alongside an event for business negotiation and investment promotion, through which a number of project agreements were signed.

It has been a tradition in China since the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period (770-221 BC) to worship the Yellow Emperor.

In 2008, the Memorial Ceremony was inscribed onto the national list of intangible cultural heritage of China.
