Some arrived without limbs, others skeletal from starvation, and several so weak they could barely stand, suffering severe dizziness from years of medical neglect behind bars.
This may be due to the Celtic traditions developing within heavily forested areas prior to the arrival of the Romans – who cleared trees to build their straight roads. During these times, crops were planted within the safety of the forested-canopy – where the Gods of Fertility operated more or less unaffected by the wild birds. Wide, open fields were not yet accepted as “British”. It might have even been the case that Celtic farmers came to some arrangement with the wild birds – setting aside some food for them so that everyone got on without conflict. There was 800-years between the Romans (5th century CE) leaving and the plague creating the conditions that led to the development of the modern British Scarecrow (14th century CE).
This militancy is directly equal to the suppressive-force that has produced it – but is it relevant, required, or legitimate for a mass working class movement to be effective? Remember, Karl Marx firmly rejected pointless acts of terrorism – which he defined as being separate and distinct from the acts of genuine working class self-defence. The point is that the working class must possess iron-like discipline if it is to achieve its objectives within a bourgeois society. Pointless acts of individualistic “terrorism” ultimately achieve nothing positive, and always lead to the working class being collectively punished for the actions of a few. Now, on the Bronx Anti-War site, and many others like it, there is a general eulogising of the actions of one “Elias Rodriguez” – a Hispanic-American man. Indeed, there is a very well-developed “Free Elias Rodriguez” Campaign much to my astonishment.
Sometimes, CSA Units proudly wore “Blue” – whilst certain Union Units proudly wore “Grey”. Both sides also possessed Units that dressed (and acted) like English Red-Coats – a designation that then sent shudders through most people due to the reputation the Red-Coats possessed – namely that of strict discipline and ruthless close-quarter-fighting (all wounded were bayoneted as an act of compassion – due to the lack of any reliable medical treatment). English Red-Coats would march indifferently into enemy-fire – safe in the belief that once the distance was closed – the enemy would pay the price. The CSA Units attempted to replicate this attitude and make the Union pay for the damage its forces inflicted upon the Southern States.

It is incredible to think that prior to 2010 in the UK – there had been no food-banks. The rolling back of Socialism on all fronts is creating intense poverty – but chosen incoming groups (not all) are being perceived as receiving preferential treatment – leading to the strengthening of the far-right. The Labour government not only forcibly deported 600 Brazilians (I wasn’t even aware Brazilians lived here as incomers – with some reports stating the number returned to Brazil could be as high as 10,000) but removed (cancelled) the British citizenship of the children born in the UK – so that they could all be deported as families! This is how Kier Starmer dealt with the problem of what the far-right terms “anchor children” – or those children who gain British citizen by being born to incoming parents (not born in the UK). I suspect this is illegal – but it will probably take decades for this to be ruled as such – by which time nobody will be held accountable (like the illegal Iraq invasion of 2003).
