As the Flotilla left the port it was in the conspicuous presence of a military helicopter seemingly conducting surveillance and in an effort to intimidate the crew after their last voyage attempt was put to an abrupt end a month ago after Israeli drones attacked the ship and put an end to their mission.
The ship with aid for Gaza was attacked by a drone just outside Maltese territorial waters, the international non-governmental organization Freedom Flotilla Coalition said in a message on X. The attack caused damage to the hull and a fire.
Malta’s local media reported that all persons on the vessel were rescued, and there were no injuries. Local media also reported that an Israeli military aircraft hovered around Malta hours before the vessel was attacked.
In an earlier statement, the government confirmed that a distress call was received and that the authorities offered immediate assistance. An Armed Forces of Malta patrol boat was also dispatched to the area.
This crime is added to the record of the Nazi enemy’s crimes against heroic prisoners and detainees, as well as against the Palestinian people throughout history. This habitual criminality is part of the policy of systematic abuse of prisoners which is part of Zionist colonial thought. Pakistani UN ambassador Munir Akram, in his explanation of resolution before the vote, said the Jordanian draft, for the purpose of moderation, does not explicitly condemn Israel for its atrocities in Gaza. The Canadian amendment would have made the resolution unbalanced and unjust. He also pointed out that the Jordanian draft contains language for the release of hostages.
