“The available information indicates that the first team was killed by Israeli forces on March 23 and that other emergency and aid crews were struck one after another over several hours as they searched for their missing colleagues,” OCHA said. “They were buried under the sand, alongside their wrecked emergency vehicles, clearly marked ambulances, a fire truck and a UN car.”
He added that the police raid apparently interrupted a counselling session and a life drawing class – “although fortunately they didn’t see the model”.
Youth Demand described the arrests as “an unprecedented level of police repression”.
‘Democracy has got to have some upsides’
The arrests led to an outcry, with former Downing Street director of communications Guto Harri telling Sunday Morning With Trevor Philips: “Democracy has got to have some upsides, and one of the upsides is that the police don’t come crashing through your door just because you say something that upsets someone.”
When Home Secretary Yvette Cooper was asked about it by Trevor Philips, she said: “We have a long tradition, not just of free speech, but of freedom of assembly.”
She added, however, that the police have operational independence and “the police need to operate independently from the home secretary”.
I expect this behaviour from New Labour and the Met Police – after-all – the Met Police is applying the laws enacted by the UK government. Modern Russia has very good relations with Israel and whilst fighting IDF volunteers serving in the Neo-Nazi Armed Forces of Ukraine – says “nothing” to rock the boat. The so-called “cease fire” has seen Israel continue to murder Palestinian men, women, and children with impunity – proving the 1975 UN Resolution that Zionism truly is a form of “White Supremacy”.
On March 30, we proudly and reverently remember the immortal Land Day epic, when our people in the Negev, the Triangle, the Galilee, and all other areas of Palestine occupied in 1948 rose up on the land of their fathers and grandfathers, and confronted with their bare chests the Zionist machine of oppression, in defense of their land, dignity, and existence. With their blood, they drew the contours of the Palestinian identity, and affirmed that the land will remain Palestinian, and that the right will remain steadfast, no matter how great the challenges, and no matter how brutal and criminal this occupation is, and no matter how horrific the war of extermination waged throughout modern history.
The Communist Party, as it commemorates this national occasion, affirms that the battle for the land has not ended. Rather, it is growing more ferocious with the escalation of the occupation’s policies of Judaizing the land, expanding settlements, and enforcing the apartheid system against our people everywhere. Land confiscation, population displacement, and ongoing attacks on holy sites are a continuation of the same criminal and fascist approach that seeks to uproot the Palestinian people from their land. This year, Land Day comes amidst an unprecedented, brutal Zionist aggression, represented by the genocide being perpetrated against our people in the Gaza Strip. The Zionist war machine continues to commit horrific massacres against civilians, including children, women, and the elderly, in a systematic targeting aimed at uprooting our people and obliterating their national identity.
When Israeli forces withdrew from al-Shifa Hospital in early April 2024, after a deadly two-week siege, the hospital was left in ruins. Healthcare workers and families were left to deal with the aftermath of the violence, with corpses scattered throughout the complex. With cemeteries overwhelmed and the morgues unable to handle the volume of bodies, families were forced to dig temporary graves in the hospital courtyards. Some of the victims were buried in mass graves by Israeli soldiers during their assault on the medical complex.
