Admission to UN membership requires a two-thirds majority at the General Assembly.

Palestine is currently a non-member observer state of the United Nations.

In 1974, the General Assembly adopted Resolution 3237, approving the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) as an observer. In December 1988, the assembly acknowledged the proclamation of the State of Palestine and decided that Palestine should be used in place of the PLO, maintaining Palestine in the non-state observer category.

In July 1998, the General Assembly elevated Palestine to a status higher than all other observers. In November 2012, the General Assembly adopted a resolution to accord Palestine the status of a non-member observer state of the United Nations.

The IRGC chief commander cautioned that Israel would face consequences for its “conspiracies” in the region, emphasizing that Israel must realize that by creating insecurity, it cannot guarantee its own safety.

In response to the Israeli strike on the Iranian consulate, he said Iran would not leave any hostile actions unanswered, noting that “our brave men will punish Israel.”

Protestors issued a statement at the end of the rallies, saying Israel’s “desperate” moves “will definitely receive a tough and regret-inducing response” from Iran, according to the semi-official Fars news agency.

The PFLP calls on all the forces of our people to confront these measures and suspicious campaigns to bring them down, and not to allow employees and workers of UNRWA to be singled out. The UNRWA Administration also called for the immediate withdrawal of all these punitive and malicious measures, which are not based on any legal or ethical standards or rules. The PFLP concluded its statement by emphasizing that no matter how great the scale of the conspiracies and challenges, our people will continue their struggle until their full goals of liberation and return are achieved.

For his part, Brother Ali Huwaidi spoke about the UNRWA centre being targeted, especially after the 7th of October, pointing out that UNRWA is currently undergoing an intense dismantling process due to the transition of its work from development to relief, in the context of removing the name refugee as a prelude to ending the refugee issue and the right of return.

Huwaidi added that the dismantling process comes in the context of demonizing UNRWA through lies and allegations published by the Zionist organization claiming the existence of permanent coordination between some UNRWA employees and the Palestinian resistance, especially Hamas, stressing that until this moment there is no proof of these allegations.

At first, the lighter does not work, but after a number of attempts – Airman Aaron Bushnell bursts into flames! He stands determined and at attention so that his camera can record his protest! He shouts “Free Palestine!” until the inside of his mouth is consumed with fire! After about 90 seconds – Airman Aaron Bushnell is lying (dying) on his back whilst private security personal aim hand-guns and fire-extinguishers at him! A Black man attempts to put out the fire – whilst a White man threatens to shoot – and therein lies the entire crux of the matter! The Zionist Israelis are currently murdering tens of thousands of Palestinian men, women and children in Gaza (and elsewhere) – and they are being empowered to carry-out this “Genocide” by the continuous supply of weaponry from the US, EU and UK!

Hyphen: “Overwhelming” Bias Revealed in New Report on UK Media’s Coverage of Israel-Palestine Conflict! (15.3.2024)

Researchers at the Centre for Media Monitoring (CfMM), an arm of the Muslim Council of Britain, examined nearly 177,000 broadcast clips and 25,515 online news articles published between 7 October and 7 November 2023. The broadcasts were from 13 channels operated by media organisations including Al Jazeera English, the BBC, Channel 4, ITV, Sky News and right wing outlets GB News and TalkTV.

The CfMM report, Media Bias: Gaza 2023-2024, also examined news websites published by 28 media organisations including the New Statesman, Economist, Daily Mail, Sun, Mirror, Independent, Guardian, Times, BBC and iNews.

They found that broadcasters referenced Israeli perspectives almost three times as much as Palestinians (4,311 times vs 1,598), while online news outlets presented Israeli perspectives almost twice as much (2,983 times vs 1,737).

On broadcast channels, “Israel’s right to defend itself” was promoted on 1,482 occasions, while the rights of Palestinians were mentioned 278 times, a ratio of 5 to 1.
