Here, just steps from the Neolithic village of Skara Brae – a UNESCO World Heritage Site inhabited over 5,000 years ago – stands a carved stone that simply reads: “First Man in Space, AD 1961”. Nestled among markers of human milestones, it honours Gagarin’s place in our shared journey — from ancient stargazers to modern explorers.

This is a quiet reminder that Gagarin’s reach extends far beyond Earth’s orbit — and even beyond the expected.

💐 Recently Russian Ambassador to the UK Andrei Kelin and Russian Consul General in Edinburgh Denis Moskalenko laid flowers at the site, paying tribute to the first man in space.

Wu Peixin, a defense industry observer, said that China has become a leader in the field of anti-stealth radar, and its many radar capabilities are the best in the world.

“The new radar and its meter-wave predecessors work on different bands, so if they were deployed together, they can form a massive surveillance network that no stealth aircraft will be able to sneak through,” he said.

China Manned Space Agency [CMSA]: Lunar Spacesuit Revealed! (29.9.2024)

According to the CMSA, spacesuits are designed for exposure to the harsh conditions of space, including vacuum, microgravity, radiation, and extreme temperatures, allowing for greater lower body mobility of astronauts to walk, climb, and conduct scientific activities on the moon’s surface. 

Research and development of the spacesuit began in 2020, inspired by traditional Chinese culture.

The red decorative bands on the arms and legs were designed to resemble flowing “Feitian” ribbons — meaning flying deity in traditional Chinese culture. Its combination with the suit symbolizes traditional Chinese philosophy of harmonizing strength and softness. And the leg bands are shaped like the exhaust flames of a rocket, conveying the dynamic energy of space exploration.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said at a news conference in Beijing on Monday that such actions “only expose the hegemony and hypocrisy of the U.S.,” adding that the U.S. “should behave the way a major country should”.

“It has always been the practice of the U.S. to manipulate social media to spread false information, poison the public opinion environment, and smear the image of other countries. China firmly objects to this,” Lin said.

He added that when Washington wants to contain and suppress a country, it ignores the truth and “coordinates resources” to smear and discredit it. “This applies not only to the fabrication and dissemination of false information about Chinese vaccines, but also to various aspects, including defaming the popular Belt and Road Initiative and spreading rumours about the ‘overcapacity’ of China’s new energy vehicles.

“The international community should keep clear-eyed about such U.S. behaviour,” he said.
