According to the national census in 2020, the proportion of people aged 60 and above in rural areas was 23.8 percent, nearly 8 percentage points higher than that in urban areas.

Since 2021, China has been focusing on adjusting its poverty alleviation measures to align with the goal of rural vitalization, while also strengthening the provision of basic healthcare in rural areas.

The National Health Commission, along with four other government departments, launched a plan in April last year to nurture college-educated rural doctors, and nearly 7,500 graduates have been hired.

Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for the Palestinian Civil Defense, said Israeli warplanes had intensified raids across multiple areas of Gaza. One strike, near the Engineers’ Syndicate in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood of western Gaza City, killed 18 people and injured 20 others.

He added that seven Palestinians were killed in a strike on a house in northern Gaza, and another one targeting a home in the Al-Daraj area in eastern Gaza City resulted in three more deaths.

In addition, local sources at Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, reported two fatalities in an attack on a house in the Qizan Rashwan area south of the city.

The Israeli military has not yet commented on the recent attacks.

Glen Carter, senior author of the study from the University of Melbourne and the Doherty Institute, said the study challenges the previously-held belief that rifaximin is low-risk for causing AMR.

“We’ve shown that rifaximin makes VRE resistant to daptomycin in a way that has not been seen before,” he said in a media release.

“It is also of concern that these daptomycin-resistant VRE might be transmitted to other patients in the hospital; a hypothesis that we are presently investigating.”

The authors of the new study said the findings highlight the critical need for effective genomics-based surveillance to detect emerging AMR.

Earlier today, two people were killed and others were wounded when Israeli fighter jets struck a house in the Al-Geneina neighbourhood, east of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip.

Furthermore, at least 28 civilians also were killed and others were injured as a result of the ongoing Israeli shelling of the city of Khan Younis.

The death toll in the Gaza Strip since the start of the aggression on October 7 has claimed the lives of approximately 26, 000, with nearly 63,740 others injured, the majority of whom are women and children. Additionally, thousands of people are reported missing.

Meanwhile, 81 trucks loaded with food and medicine entered Gaza through the Rafah crossing with Egypt on Friday, the office added.

However, the aid convoys could face multiple challenges in their delivery.
