My father had just turned ‘1 years old’ in 1944 – when his father left for war! My father remembers all the war stories his Dad told him – and which he has told me. My grandfather’s Unit suffered terrible casualties fighting against fascism to secure the freedom we take for granted today! Luckily, my grandfather survived the battles liberating Western Europe from the thuggery and murder of the Nazi German jackboot!
Having cross-referenced Russian-language texts I can confirm that Sergeant SOKUROV Eduard (СОКУРОВ Эдуард) did indeed die whilst serving in Syria prior to Vadim Kostenko. The distinction seems to be that Vadim Kostenko was ‘Contracted’ to serve a set time and in a set place – and was not a Career Soldier – or a Professional Specialist as was Edward Sokurov. Vadim Kostenko, therefore, was the first ‘ordinary’ Russian Army soldier to ‘die’ in Syria (but was the ‘second’ to die overall). Still, given the Great Patriotic War numbers that are dying in Donbass today – discussion of individual cases of mortality (confronting US hegemony around the world) seems almost superfluous and self-indulgent by comparison!
Indeed, Sutton Council was once ‘forced’ (during the 1990s) to make a public statement to the effect that it recognised and supported the principle of multiculturalism – such was the bad reputation it had regarding accusations of bias, prejudice and blatant racism! Indeed, a fine example of Hitlerite manhood stripped down to his underwear (in true US superhero style) and began to swing an axe around whilst threatening to decapitate attending Police Officers! Once a sizable crowd had gathered (involving members of the Press) – he took the opportunity to forcibly complain about the free house and car he had been given on arrival – as it is nowhere near ‘big enough’ to meet his future needs!
