Launceston Castle – Cornwall – 25/26.7.15

Castles of this type (motte and baily) were effective because they symbolised an evolutionary development in human military planning. Lightly armed warriors from agricultural societies could penetrate these structures on foot, and often suffered very high casualties attempting to do so. Furthermore, tribal groupings living on farm lands, had no equivalent fortified structures to hide behind.

Camelford Ch’an Week Retreat (North Cornwall)

Numbers vary dramatically, but as we are not a commercial enterprise, this is of no interest. There is always a strong inner core that keeps the teachings of Master Xu Yun (1840-1959) alive in the UK. We have been asked to Hong Kong and China in recent years, and these are invitations we intend to honour in the near future. Our last Ch’an Week Retreat (in the Sai Kung area) of Hong Kong, attracted over 50 participants in 1999, and we had to abandon the building and sit in the beautiful countryside.

NHS List Maintenance Programme – Cutting GP Lists!

Although these letters are being sent out under the guise of NHS England, they are actually from a private company named ‘NHS Shared Business Services’ that has been given the job by the UK government of cutting the number of people currently held on GP lists. As it stands, everyone in the UK has the right to register for their healthcare at a local GP surgery of their choice, dependent upon the geographical location of their home. Once registered, individuals are able to access NHS care free of charge at the point of use. This new NHS List Maintenance Programme is a co-operative policy carried out by NHS SBS, the local GP’s (who presumably back it), and the national government. Excluded from this exercise in NHS cutting are the millions of people affected by the reality of its implication and implementation.

Cornish Nationalism Deprives Others of Rights

This has led to local campaigning within Cornwall to have the myth of Cornish ‘celtic’ culture officially recognised – which amounts to a step back into feudal times. Such has the pressure been for the actualisation of this myth that the Tory government will announce today (24.4.14) that under EU legislation, the people of Cornwall will be granted ‘National Minority’ status. The plethora of contradictions is immense. Many in Cornwall are intolerant to others, whilst peddling the myth that the Cornish are racially ‘special’, whilst at the same time supporting UKIP which would withdraw from the very European Union that has granted the Cornish minority status! Within Cornish nationalist literature there is no mention of the status of ethnic minority people living in Cornwall, or the status of EU migrants legally travelling to the area for work.
