Moon South Pole Samples!

China: Researchers Reveal Chang’e-6 Lunar Samples Composition! (18.9.2024)

The Chang’e-6 mission, however, marks the first time humanity has ever successfully collected samples from the Moon’s far side, returning 1,935.3 grams of precious material.

The landing site for this sampling mission was located in the South Pole-Aitken basin on the far side, specifically at the edge of the Apollo impact crater, an area where the lunar crust is extremely thin, potentially revealing primordial materials from the early impact basins. Particle analysis shows a bimodal distribution of grain sizes, indicating that the samples may have undergone mixing from different sources.

The study indicates that the Chang’e-6 samples contain not only basalt that records the history of volcanic activity on the Moon, but also non-basaltic materials from other regions.

Early Modern Humans in China!

China: East Asian Homo Sapiens Study [45,000 BP] – Reveals Complex Characteristics! (17.2.2024)

They made and used composite tools to hunt equids, ate meat and bone marrow, and used animal skins, Yang added.

Archaeologists also found that the stone tools, ornaments and bone implements unearthed at the site exhibit both Eastern and Western characteristics, providing evidence of the complex human communication in East Asia at the time.

The study has updated the traditional understanding of the diffusion and cultural development of Homo sapiens in East Asia, Yang said.

Lobes of the Human Brain!

China: Scientists Map Neural Network of Hippocampus in Mouse Brain! (5.2.2024)

“Such previously unknown spatial organization principles of single neuron projections will provide a structural basis for a better understanding the function of hippocampal neurons,” said Xu Chun, a leading researcher on the team and a correspondent author of the paper.

“This enormous dataset (in the paper) provides unprecedented insights into the divergence of hippocampal output, bilateral projections and some of the principles of hippocampal projections at the level of individual neurons,” said one peer review.

Poo said the research results will provide a foundation to work out a function map of the single neurons in the mouse hippocampus to discover how signals are transmitted and which single neurons and signals are related to particular brain functions, such as memory, learning and emotions.

China Focus: Mars Rover Zhurong Finds Evidence of Water at Red Planet’s Low Latitudes! (1.5.2023)

In the study, researchers estimated the dunes Zhurong found were formed about 400,000 to 1.4 million years ago. The exchange of water vapor between the higher and lower latitudes during this period led to repeated humid environments at low Martian latitudes, followed by the frequent occurrence of salty water when temperatures dropped in the region.

Qin said the discovery provides key proof of liquid water at Martian low latitudes, where surface temperatures are relatively warm and more suitable for life than high latitudes.

It also provides information for the design of future exploration strategies for Mars rovers. As saline water once existed at various latitudes on the surface of Mars, priority should be given to salt-tolerant microbes in future missions searching for extant life on Mars, researchers said in the study.
