A Cuckoo Pecks the Tree Outside Our Bedroom Window!

Sutton: A Woodpecker Outside Our Bedroom Window! (6.11.2025)

Whilst getting ready for school – our youngest daughter (Kai-Lin) – heard a “knocking” outside our bedroom window in our first-floor flat (the window is more or less in-line with the treetops nearby). When Gee pulled-back the curtain (it was around 8 am) to everyone’s surprise – there was what looked like a juvenile Woodpecker attempting to develop a head of steam through its inexperienced pecking! Normally, we only ever hear these birds “out of sight” as it were, but even then, only at a considerable distance (usually in woodland or nears forests) – but I have never seen such a rural bird landing within a city context.

Baby Black-Bird Rescued!

South London: Baby Black-Bird Rescued! (22.5.2025)

As Gee has worked in Rescue-Centres many moons ago – she was able to do a full assessment of the bird’s fitness – and this bird passed with flying colours! We teach our pets to be kind to one another and so the cat had not bitten the bird in any place on the body (we think it is a female Black-Bird). The wings were intact, the feet strong, the beak sharp, and the temperament calm and attentive. I held the bird for about 30 minutes whilst the bird calmed down, stood-up and sorted itself-out. Gee then took the bird outside to near where the cat caught the bird – and it stood on her hand for a few seconds, gave a squawk and away it went! This bird flew safely into a high tree and we hope it will now have a good and long life!

Magnetic Pulse - Chirp - 2025

China: Joint Research Team – Unexpected “Chirping Chorus” Detected from Outer Space! (23.1.2025)

According to the research team, electromagnetic bursts play a crucial role in the formation of the Earth’s radiation belts, pulsating auroras, and the precipitation of particles into its atmosphere. Traditional views hold that chorus waves are formed in the magnetic field of a dipole of near-Earth space, where the magnetic field is similar to a large bar magnet.

The newly-found chorus waves were detected in a region where Earth’s magnetic field is stretched out, which scientists didn’t expect. They lasted about 0.1 second with a frequency of nearly 100 hertz per second, which are similar to the waves detected in near-Earth space. That raises fresh questions about how these chirping waves form.

Buddhapadipa Temple - Wimbledon

Wimbledon: Buddhapadipa Temple & the Family of Geese! (29.5.2024)

It possesses a modest park with a small body of water, a mansion house and a temple complex. Indeed, we have visited here many times in the past. As with all such temples – it is free to enter – and no-one interferes with acts of private meditation. On occasion, the robed-clad monks (Bhikkhu-Beggar) might be seen walking through the grounds. As all animal cruelty is strictly forbidden, the local wildlife tends to behave in a much more relaxed and content manner – as if each animals perceives the “Dhamma” (Teaching) that is being practiced. Whatever the case, such an environment allows children to develop a caring attitude of respect for all animals – just one of the reasons we take our children to such places!

Zebra Finch Fledgling: A New Baby Bird Has Arrived! (24.10.2023)

Around 21-days ago I heard the tell-tale signs of high-pitched ‘squeaks’ emanating from the bird nest in the aviary! This group hatched a baby a few months ago (in the Summer of 2023) – but this poor little creature only lived for around a week – despite the colony of birds trying their best to help his survival. Nature is cruel. However, this bird is strong and healthily aggressive – and we can tell by his markings that he is a ‘male’. He has just left the nest and is sat on the floor of the cage – flapping his wings and occasionally ‘chirping’! The colony of birds are all exhibiting excellent parenting skills and group compassion! It is a joy to behold!
