The RBA has revealed a design celebrating Indigenous people’s connections to country will replace the image of the monarch on Australia’s $5 note. 

The new note bearing the theme, selected from more than 2,100 public nominations, will be the first not to feature a monarch.

Before selecting the theme, the RBA engaged with First Nations organisations across the country to encourage submissions.

And the redesign panel included First Nations representatives, as well as those from the RBA and Note Printing Australia.

In a statement on Instagram, Jones defended her actions, claiming she had been trying to prevent the wombat from being hit by a vehicle and had briefly examined it for injuries before returning it to its mother. She acknowledged she had acted impulsively and expressed regret for causing distress.

However, she also lashed out at the Australian government, highlighting its policies that allow farmers to kill wombats and other wild animals, said the ABC report.

Under Australia’s Environmental and Biosecurity Protection Act 1999, it is illegal to take or harm native animals without a legal reason. Wildlife experts clarified that handling a joey is only permissible if its mother is confirmed dead and the animal requires rescue, it said, adding authorities have not announced any legal action against Jones at this time.

It should be noted that the Australian military aircraft chose not to take the clear path but instead intruded into someone else’s territory in the South China Sea, he said.

He added that China’s expulsion of the aircraft was entirely reasonable and lawful, beyond reproach, and a legitimate defence of national sovereignty and security.

“We urge Australia to abandon its risky and reckless behaviour, strictly restrain its front-line naval and air forces, and not act as a follower and enforcer, stirring up trouble in the South China Sea to the detriment of others and itself,” he said.

Superbug - Linked to Rifaximin!

Australia: Research Confirms Common Antibiotic [Rifaximin] Linked to Rise of Dangerous Superbug! (24.10.2024)

Glen Carter, senior author of the study from the University of Melbourne and the Doherty Institute, said the study challenges the previously-held belief that rifaximin is low-risk for causing AMR.

“We’ve shown that rifaximin makes VRE resistant to daptomycin in a way that has not been seen before,” he said in a media release.

“It is also of concern that these daptomycin-resistant VRE might be transmitted to other patients in the hospital; a hypothesis that we are presently investigating.”

The authors of the new study said the findings highlight the critical need for effective genomics-based surveillance to detect emerging AMR.

Such an extensive surveillance program requires a substantial annual budget, and with the explosive growth of internet data, the demand for funding is bound to rise, the report said, adding that this is one of the main reasons that the U.S. government, in collaboration with its intelligence agencies, devised and promoted the “Volt Typhoon” operation.
