"My father met Norman Bethune in Spain during his recovery from battle injuries. Influenced by him, my father aspired to come to China, where he met my mother and later had me," said Michael Crook, chairman of the International Committee for the Promotion of Chinese Industrial Cooperatives. His parents, David and Isabel Crook, played an important role in training a large number of foreign-language professionals for China. "The spirit of Bethune has not faded with time; instead, it has been widely inherited and carried forward in both China and Canada," said Hu Jinqiang, director of the North China Military Martyrs Cemetery. Hu noted that today Bethune is not just a name but a symbol of internationalism, humanism and selfless dedication. "We commemorate him to inspire more people to remember history and carry forward his spirit."

Each set contains four stamps, featuring the themes of persistence in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, construction of the Ming Tombs Reservoir, the holding of a global vision, and returning to the Jinggangshan Mountains.

North Korea – White Top Mountain Family Lineage

In addition, the actual birthplace of Kim Jong-Il remains a mystery. According to official records in North Korea, Kim Jong Il was born on the border between China and North Korea, on the ‘Long White mountain, at the ‘White Top Mountain Secret Camp’, because this is known as the place where Kim Il Sung led guerrilla forces from. However, there are contradictions related to these facts. For instance, in the first half of 1940, almost all of Kim Il Sung’s family – that is his parents and his wife – were living in the Soviet Union. As they travelled between the South Camp (situated in Vladivostok) and North Camp (situated in Khabarovsk) during this time period, it is likely that Kim Jong-Il’s birth place was not at the ‘White Top Mountain Secret Camp’.
