Disability in Ancient Egypt!

Disability History Month: British Museum – Eight Histories of Disabled People in Ancient Egypt! (18.12.2024)

Disabled people have always been present and active in society. Many specialists and experts around the world have started to investigate representations and lived experiences of disability and care in the past through archaeology and museum collections. The objects and remains highlighted here demonstrate some of the stories we are uncovering and hint at the discoveries that might be made in the future. We hope that these stories will demonstrate to everyone that disabled people have always existed and been part of the story of humanity, and empower disabled people to see themselves in history, and to continue making it, thousands of years into the future.

China: Landmark “Transitional” Human Evolution Fossil Found! (8.12.2024)

The foot metatarsal bone found this year is the only one unearthed in China, and it could provide important information in studying both how the ancients walked and their height, Wu said.

In addition, the finely crafted stone tools found at Hualongdong show the relatively high technical level of the Hualongdong cave people 300,000 years ago. They were very intelligent, and had evolved towards the stage of Homo sapiens, according to Wu.

“The Hualongdong humans were the earliest ancient humans in East Asia who exhibited the most characteristics of Homo sapiens, and were at a key turning point in the evolution from ancient humans towards modern humans. The Hualongdong site will provide a wealth of information on how modern humans evolved,” said Liu Wu, another researcher with the IVPP, who has conducted excavations at the site for more than a decade.

Stow-on-the-Wold: “Stow Wells” – Ancient Spring-Water in the Heart of Gloucestershire! (29.8.2024)

When an individual was found guilty of some petty offence – they were sentenced to a number of days and nights in the Town “Stocks” held by the wrists, ankles and neck – whilst passers-by were permitted to strike them with kicks, punches and any object to hand (providing disfigurement and death was avoided) and threw rotten food and excrement if any were at hand! Most of this structure is now missing – with two vertical posts (about three-feet high) still being in situé:

Come On England! Euro 2024!

Final Euro 2024 – England Vs Spain – It’s Coming Home! (14.7.2024)

Today, the Men’s England Football Team is playing Spain in the Final of the UEFA Cup (Euro 2024) – after successfully navigating their way through all the rounds! It has not been easy – but the luck of the draw has been on England’s side – with the English players coming to the aid of the team with magnificent last gasp goals! A salute must go to England’s players of African and Caribbean descent – without their expertise – England would not be in this Final! In my lifetime England has never won a major tournament – so perhaps this will change tonight. If not – I am happy with the sheer glory that this superb side has won for the history of English Football! I still remember Gareth Southgate missing his penalty in the World Cup Semi-Final in Italy 1990! He is now one of the greatest Managers England has ever seen! He took the sadness of his experience and positively directed it into a very successful career in steering England to world success! Never give-up and always look for a way to prevail! The Three Lions never give-up!

Iraq: Certain Artefacts – Looted By US, UK & EU Military – Returned! (9.7.2024)

The ministry highlighted the role played by Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani’s visit to the United States in April for securing the return of these artifacts.

The ministry also announced the return of many artifacts of different eras, which had been smuggled to countries such as Jordan, Norway, Germany, and Britain.

The ministry emphasized its commitment to tracking down and reclaiming smuggled Iraqi antiquities scattered across the globe. These efforts aim to preserve this cultural heritage and prevent further tampering or vandalism.

A significant number of Iraqi antiquities and archaeological sites were looted or destroyed following the 2003 U.S. invasion.

Ornate Starway in the Museum!

Visiting St Albans Museum – Excellent Educational Experience! (30.5.2024)

St Albans Museum records the recent and the ancient history of the area – with the building itself being an important part of this record. I am including below a random but substantial number of photographs taken on the day – recording the many rooms, exhibits and important artefacts! On the day there was a very interesting Ladybird Exhibition – which interested Mei-An due to her advanced drawing ability! As usual, there was no data concerning Chinese migrants from the British Empire – but there was a very interesting exhibit regarding the Windrush Generation!
