Venice Lion Chinese Tomb Guardian

Italy: Study Finds Winged Lion of Venice Has “Chinese” Origin! (11.9.2025)

It would seem that between the Tang and (Islamic) Yuan Dynasties (around six-hundred years) this Lion sat dutifully outside a temple (or a tomb) – before being transported to the West and extensively “altered” to suit Western sensitivities – although it is highly likely that very few Europeans knew what an African (or “Indian”) lion actually looked like. Most Chinese lions I have seen are sat-down and I have never seen such an object stood-up on all fours. It would be interesting to see what the Lion in question looked like before the alterations. Finally, it is interesting that the British author (and former Submarine Commander in the Royal Navy) – Gavin Menzies (1937-2020) – wrote a book entitled “1434: The Year a Chinese Fleet Sailed to Italy and Ignited the Renaissance” (2008). He discusses the Chinese delegation that met with Pope Eugenius IV in Florence (1434) – and suggests that China had some type of diplomatic connection with the City States (which included Venice). Those who criticise Menzies’ work – are the same people who would never have allowed for idea that St Mark’s Lion could be of a “Chinese” origin. Given that this Lion arrived in Venice around 1264 – this Chinese Mission would have occurred only 166-years later.

Brave Spanish Fire-Fighters!

Spain: Brave Fire Brigade Saves Historic Combined Mosque-Cathedral from Blaze! (9.8.2025)

“That allowed them to know all the entrances, the hallways, where they could hook up their hoses,” he said

Forensics police were at the scene to try to determine the cause of the fire.

ABC and other newspapers reported that a mechanical sweeping machine had caught fire in the site.

The site was built as a mosque — on the site of an earlier church — between the 8th and 10th centuries by the southern city’s then Muslim ruler, Abd ar-Rahman, an emir of the Umayyad dynasty.

After Christians reconquered Spain in the 13th century under King Ferdinand III of Castile, it was converted into a cathedral and architectural alterations were made over following centuries.

UNESCO designated the building a World Heritage Site in 1984, calling it “an architectural hybrid that joins together many of the artistic values of East and West and includes elements hitherto unheard-of in Islamic religious architecture, including the use of double arches.”

Around 50,000 Lived in Cahokia at its Peak!

Cahokia: Native Americans Lived in Cities – Climate Change NOT Responsible for Demise! (9.8.2024)

Natural climate change has always happened – and is happening now – with the caveat that certain Environmentalists now suggest that the agency of human behaviour also contributes to the process of climate change. Indeed, it has become stylish in certain quarters for climate change (natural or unnatural) to be blamed for environmental alterations that cannot be readily or conveniently explained. Until recently, the dominant hypothesis – presented as fact – was that the ancient (Pre-Colombian) City of Cahokia (located in the region of St Louis) had disappeared in the 1200s (13th century) exclusively due to climate change. New academic research, however, has provided reliable (objective) academic evidence that climate change was not partially (or entirely) responsible for the demise of Cahokia.

King Arthur May Well Have Been a Historical Personage!

Glastonbury Abbey – King Arthur’s Grave! (29.7.2024)

The Celtic Church (from Egypt) was probably in Britain from the 2nd century CE onwards – with it being destroyed by the incoming Roman Catholic Church by the 11th century CE. Its monastic nature encouraged not only cloistered monks who lived in draughty stone cells – but also Hermits who lived in natural caves or various other meditation cells. Celtic Christianity did not persecute – but encouraged and accommodated the Pagan beliefs of indigenous people. There was a mutual respect between both groups of believers and this explains why leaders like King Arthur would strive to protect the Church – and the Church to honour him in death. This type of Asiatic respect does not require a slavish attachment to belief to be functional. Freedom of belief equates to respect for difference. There are many theories dating King Arthur from the 6th, 7th and 8th centuries, etc, which include many geographical areas associated with his life and death. We favour Tintagel in Cornwall – a place we have visited many times. King Arthur was a wise man, a compassionate man, and a great warrior!

The US Kami-Kaze ‘Re-Education Concentration Camp’ at ‘Fukuoka’! (20.6.2022)

Those who survived this process describe it as comprising of continuous psychological and physical torture that lasted for around one-month and which was administered by uniformed US Servicemen! This sounds very similar to the contemporary US torture carried-out in Iraq (and other places)! Those now former ‘Kami-Kaze’ Pilots who survived this ‘Re-Education’ process were ‘discharged’ back into Japanese society whilst the US Authorities (with the collusion of the ‘new’ Japanese Authorities) ‘watched’ these men everyday – ensuring that their employment, health and housing opportunities remained very basic and at an impoverished level of existence. These former ‘Kami-Kaze’ Pilots received no pension, no back-pay and were not allowed to attend any Remembrance Ceremonies or have any Monuments constructed to ‘Remember’ the sacrifice of the ‘Kami-Kaze’ Pilots – despite the US Military Authorities ‘filming’ a number of these attacks (so ‘shocked’ were the Americans to encounter this tactic)!
