She stood on tiptoe, her gaze piercing through the crowd as she watched the slowly rising China’s national flag. Tears of excitement streamed down her cheeks. After more than 4,000 kilometres of travel from a small town near the Taklimakan Desert to Tian’anmen Square in the capital of China, the young girl witnessed the solemn scene described in her textbooks for the first time of her life.
Recently, I spent a week in the Northants countryside. Fresh air, good food, wide open spaces, a garden, things to do, and everybody saying “hello” – and “good morning” – and meaning it! Coming from a London suburb, the general rule of thumb is “silence” – when meeting people you do not know just in case they want to rob or rape you. My children are taught to remain well-behaved by the school when meeting others – to be “quiet” so as not to attract the unwanted attention of others. Walking through the picturesque village of Ketton last Saturday (1.8.2025) was interesting, as well-meaning groups of old ladies loudly greeted us like they knew us – all ready to help at a moment’s notice – we were even invited to a Church Service within ten minutes of arriving!

At a recent news conference, Hu Qiangqiang, a spokesman for the National Health Commission, said common violations by doctors who are also influencers include directing followers to offline services, offering illegal online consultations, selling products via livestreams and prescribing overpriced medications.
We acquired a few postcards from St Peter’s Church situated in the Deene (North Northants) countryside – on the Kliby Lane – not far from Kilby Hall. This Church dates back to 1060 CE and is no longer in regular use but is administered by The Churches Conservation Trust – which does very good work maintaining old Churches of immense historical value. This protects these old buildings from being sold-off, destroyed and built-over, etc. Another way of conserving old Churches involves what’s termed “Champing” – or old Churches converted for families and groups to stay in these old buildings overnight!
The ruling marks a rare appellate intervention in the context of pre-nuptial agreements.
