At the end of January, more than six years after his death, the United States Department of Justice finally released more than three million pages of FBI investigation files into Epstein, plus 2,000 videos and 180,000 images. An additional three million pages are being withheld, the DOJ said, due to sensitive material, victims’ rights, and legal privilege.

The released files, though incomplete, revealed some of the architecture of Epstein’s illegal operation. It was more than a sex-trafficking ring to lure the rich and the powerful, analysts and experts said, it was a sophisticated system of social engineering designed to procure money and impunity through proximity to power.

Epstein was born into an ordinary Jewish family — his mother was a homemaker and his father worked as a landscaper for the City of New York. He was good at math and played piano well. Both talents helped him later charm people.

Someone once said that when you are born a nurse there is an incurable need to take care of others, this happens with Delenis González Paneca.

“From the first time I attended her, I had a special connection, she knows almost my entire life and I know hers. You just have to spend some time interpreting the language of her eyes, her moans, her facial expressions, and you understand her perfectly. She shows you that communication goes beyond words.”

Like other children and young people from Sancti Spiritus, Yésika Mora benefits from the Cuban hospital classroom programme, created to provide educational care to paediatric patients hospitalized in cancer hospitals, injured or with conditions that require prolonged hospitalization.

With adjustments in the study programme, due to the effects in the sphere of speech, the young woman finished the twelfth grade, and in the words of Osmedy Fumero Rodríguez, professor of Spanish and Literature, “she has had the privilege of bringing teachings and lessons to a sui generis, exclusive Yésika, who lives and loves with an incomparable dedication and who earns and will win the admiration of those who know her here and in all other areas”.

Ana María Madrazo Mejías is torn between the uncertainty of seeing her mother sick and the satisfaction she feels for the care lavished on her by the doctors and nurses of the Cardiology service.

“He needed a transient pacemaker and they put it in. Now we are waiting for them to take her to Holguín or Bayamo to put a permanent one on her. Thanks to this Revolution, my mother will be able to have another few years of life.

“I hope that the president of the United States does not make the situation we have more difficult.”

Dr. Adrián Hernández Carballo is the head of service of the intensive care unit of the Doctor Ernesto Guevara de la Serna Hospital, a “purely technological” area that is among the three with the best results in the country, “thanks to the medical and nursing team we have here.”

There, despite the scarcity of medical supplies, all treatments are carried out with precision. And this is attested to by the recovered patients and their families, who arrive from the other existing therapy rooms in the province, to centralize resources.

In relation to seriously pregnant women, excellence in services is sought, and for more than a year none has died. This is one of the indicators that the Washington government wants to reverse with its inhumane measures to hurt the Cuban population.

He stated that the State Council will prioritize the consideration of a bill criminalizing the denial of genocide and the defamation of the memory of victims. He said that these measures will strengthen the legal protection of historical memory and help more effectively counter attempts to conceal Nazi crimes and glorify Nazism.
