Destroyed Panama-China Park Will Be Re-Built!

Panama: Central Government “Condemns” Demolition of the “Panama-China Park” Monument – Vows to Re-Build! (7.1.2026)

Panama-China Park – Monument Celebrating 150-Years of Migration!

The Panamanian President Palace issued a Statement on December 28th, 2025, clearly opposing the demolition of the 150th Anniversary Monument recording the Arrival of Chinese migrants into Panama – ordering the immediate restoration on the original site.. This Monument is situated on the Observation Deck of the Bridge of the Americas – to the west-side of the Panama Canal.

From the night of the 27th December to the early morning of the 28th December, the China-Panama Park and the 150th Anniversary of the Arrival of Chinese in Panama – were forcibly demolished at the Bridge of the Americas Observation Deck in Arraiján, Panama. On December 28th, Panama President Mulino and a number of government officials from the Ministry of Public Works, the Ministry of Canal Affairs and other Departments – all issued statements saying that the move was a “rogue-act” ordered by the Mayor of the Arraiján Municipal Government. The Government of Panama condemned this illegal act – and spoke highly of the profound historical significance of the Monument – and ordered the Monument fully restored on the same site.

“In view of this, the Monument is ordered to be immediately restored at the original site and this project coordinated between the Panamanian Chinese community and the Ministry of Culture,”

Mulino made a solemn statement via social media, clearly condemning the relevant actions of the Arraiján Municipal Government and demanding an immediate investigation.

Mulino said the act was “barbaric” without any justification. He stressed that the Chinese community in Panama has deep roots within the country’s history and has been living in Panama for generations – “deserving full respect”. Mulino also pointed out that an investigation should be launched immediately, calling such actions “unforgivable”.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Panama issued an official statement on the same day, expressing respect and concern for the Chinese community in Panama, pointing out that the Chinese community has been an integral part of national construction for more than 170 years.

In a separate statement, the Panamanian government said the demolition was carried out at night, without dialogue, without prior notice, and without communication with the groups involved. The Panamanian government also stressed that local authorities did not coordinate or communicate regarding the Monument – until it was demolished.

On the night of the 27th, the Arraiján Municipal Government issued a statement saying that the reason for the demolition was that there were structural safety risks at the site. The Chinese community in Panamania strongly opposes and condemns this.

A number of Chinese communities in Panama issued an announcement on the 28th that the China-Panama Park was jointly built by the Panamanian Chinese community through their own efforts, investment and commitment on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of their arrival in Panama. Since June 2024, the Chinese community has repeatedly tried to communicate with the Arraiján Municipality in an attempt to maintain the Monument. However, there was no effective response to the requests. After March this year, the Chinese community did not receive any response from the city government to its petition.

In this context, the Panamanian Chinese community announced that it would request an investigation and hold corresponding administrative accountability to safeguard the damaged historical, cultural and integrated heritage, the announcement said.
